Marie' Digby, pronounced Mari-ay, got her start singing and found her way to fame by posting videos of herself performing her original songs and a few cover songs, on YouTube. She sings, plays the guitar and the piano, and her songs are catchy and well written. She quickly became very popular, and got a lot of attention for her acoustic cover version of the Rhianna song "Umbrella" . . the 24- year-old singer/songwriter daughter of a Japanese mother and Irish-American father, is as beautiful as she is talented, and I really am loving this CD! A lot of the time you can buy a CD and only really like 3 or 4 songs, but I'm really loving all of these. I think my favorite is "Miss Invisible", which won the Pantene Pro-Voice songwriting contest in 2004, but "Say It Again" and "Traffic", "Stupid for You" and "Fool" are just as good.. they're all pretty good. I would do a more indepth review of each song, but I'll just put links to her MySpace and YouTube and Amazon pages, and you can go listen to the actual songs yourself.
Marie" Digby on YouTube here you can hear the "stripped down", original acoustic versions of her songs, just a girl and her guitar, the way a lot of her fans first fell in love with her. The CD versions are great, but they're slicker and more professonal, and she sounds just as good without all the fluff.
Marie" Digby - Myspace here she has her videos posted as well, and you can also check out her club dates and see where she'll be playing .. including a free concert she'll be giving on www.deeprockdrive.com, Sunday, May 18th, at 6:00 EST.
You can download her CD on Amazon.com or Itunes for 6.99.
Marie's style is similar to a lot of today's popular artists, like Sara Bareilles, Kate Voegele, Michelle Branch, and even Jordin Sparks, and to some extent Leona Lewis...all of whom I love..but, they all kinda sound the same. It's not so much with Jordin and Leona, they do have they're own more unique sounds, but they sing the same types of songs.. but the rest all start to sound interchangeable if you listen to them for a while. I don't get that feeling with Marie'..she's got her own vibe. ..similar, but definitely different.
What is SYMBM? It stands for "Stuff You Might Be Missing", and it's the title of a series of stuff I used to do on one of my old blogs...reviews of stuff, CDs, movies, shows, websites, restaurants, food could be anything that strikes my fancy, really.. LOL
