I do need to get off my rear and get to school .... not good when the teacher turns up late on the first day.... but thought I'd point to a couple of the articles that immediately came to mind when I posted the question...
First of all would have to be anything Gus... I love Gus... love the image of him carting around a mouse in his poor little mouth.... that original post had THE BEST EVER comment thread... I am still mourning its loss. Oh...and don't miss Gus, the Movie! It is brilliant! (I hope you don't mind me borrowing your picture, Ina!)
There's an article Elsie posted, too, that changed the way I think about pictures.... The pictures of her husband that she treasures and shares with us made me think about taking pictures that I might feel the same way about (God forbid) someday.
The problem, of course, with choosing any of Elsie's articles as a favourite is finding one specific one (she is a ~little~ prolific).... I haven't yet...but I will...and in the meantime, this is a close second.

Just in case you missed it, in the comments for my Kill This Thread article about Gus, yesterday I described him walking out into my manicured gardens:
"I just spent the last four hours in my gardens, getting them ready to plant. I'm expanding them tremendously. I took all kinds of pictures of my flowers and was looking around with a very smug and proud expression on my face, when Gus walked out into the yard. I looked at the hideousness that is him at this stage of the dematting from winter (huge bald spots, the fur around his neck is thick and matted, his head is itty, bitty, tiny...he looks like a cat coming out of another cat) and started laughing hysterically. He is so freaking out of place!"
I'm not promoting myself, but rather the patheticness of my cat.
Thanks for doing this, flit.
Mona D's Story
Of the poetry on Gather, I always go back to Dean's
pages. One of my favorites is about his music teacher. See if it doesn't take you back to your own teachers of long ago.
Dean's Poem
shall be looking for the original gus article too Ina... got to post that link... that was so funny!
Gus stories are the best.
