I had no idea what to expect from Cloverfield, so I was especially surprised by how great a movie it was. This is a modern day monster movie akin to the Japanese Godzilla films of yesteryear, but nowhere near as silly or low budget. The premise of this movie is that a video tape was found and it depicts the events experienced by a group of young people trying to rescue a friend while Manhattan Island is laid to waste by a giant monster that walks around smashing buildings, tearing down bridges, biting helicopters, and eating people. This movie is absolutely insane in terms of realism, and I think horror/thriller fans will love it. I sure did! The link below will take you to my full review:

I actually enjoyed the "Behind-The-Scenes" part of the DVD more than the movie itself. And I am not being sarcastic. The "Making Of Cloverfield" and the "Cloverfield Visual Effects" portions were very interesting (I've never seen so much green screen in my entire life!!)
But, as for the movie itself, I sure didn't care for the ending (nothing like leaving everything wide open in case this one grosses enough to produce a sequel). On a scale from one to ten, I would give it a five (or maybe even a six). And that would be just for the visual effects (because they were the only thing that really saved this movie from bankrupting the studio).
But the premise sounds excellent...and there hasn't been a really good monster movie in a very long time.
