In this little valley, we have only one grocery, a JayC Food Store, which is now a subsidiary of Kroger. There are a number of problems in that store. Two of the major ones, I THOUGHT, were wheelchair access and a consistent lack of sale items.
Today, I have realized that there was a problem that was far less obvious but far more serious. They have 12-14 inch subs on sale for $3.99. Granted, you don't get them your way and they may have been sitting in that case for a couple of hours but at $4 they probably wouldn't sit here for long. I got two, one roast beef and one turkey. When I opened up the roast beef to put some mayo on, I was greeted by a clot of dirt on the lettuce that had even rubbed off onto the bread.
When I asked at the counter for a second roast beef sandwich I was told they couldn't make one because, "We don't have no bread."
Now I'm glad they didn't.
I have to ask, "If they don't wash the lettuce (or, presumably, the tomatoes), what else don't they wash before handling the food they hand across that counter?

One grocery chain was bleaching the meat and selling it to make it look better after they should have thrown it out. I am very picky about where I buy meat and spend time looking it over.
The amount of money the grocery store makes it the bottom line. The workers are responsible for the dirt however, how stupid. I would call the health department so they can investigate.
People get disgruntled and do dumb things. When I lived in Pa, a policeman bought a sub and it was full of salt. I am wary of many restaurants and will not return if I get sick. I have gotten food poisoning ...and it is no picnic.
I am sorry this happened to you. It shouldn't have and who ever made those sandwiches owe you an apology!
Does your town have a local newspaper, you can call? Maybe they's like to look into it>
I wish I'd found out before I left the restaurant. I complained to the headquarters and received free food coupons. Yeah, as if. My only consolation was I described the employe that was responsible to a tee.
