Even as we prepared, we hit a few bumps along the ride (no pun intended) with funds. However, we each used our positive attitudes and creativity to make it work. Now, knowing this is a solidified trip, and now that school is out, the idea is finally settling in. It's a bit overwhelming.
I don't think any of us know what we are in for.
These five weeks will be the longest period of time I have been away from Pittsburgh and my home. In a way I am relieved by it. It is a sign that I am growing up.
Each of our jobs, just as a job title, will be rigorous. Our additional tasks such as driving will be demanding as well; particularly the guys on the bikes. But even being a passenger in a car is exhausting. And we will be traveling over 8000 miles. Such a long length in a small period of time is dizzying.
On top of everything else, we will be sleeping in tents the majority of the time. I don't think that will matter much, since we will be so exhausted, we won't have any trouble falling asleep no matter where we are.
Our tentative departure is about 2.5 weeks away. It is a bittersweet date marked on my calendar. I am really looking forward to traveling and experiencing the rides and our stops. I just hope I can manage to remain sane the entire time too.
