DREAMING and the SENSES
by René Allen
When we DREAM, there is a strong point of contact wherein our senses are engaged. The senses of sight, sound, and smell.
Our senses, when engaged, are trigger points.
The trigger points of the senses give us further insight into our DREAMS. We may, for example have a DREAM wherein there is a strong smell of some sort ~ i.e., floral, rain, food smells, etc. Each of the smells represent another KEY to our understanding of the DREAM MESSAGE.
The Sense of Smell
Having a DREAM and remembering the scent that came through during the dreaming state indicates that you have picked up on a strong message that is seeking to come through. Scents mean different things to different people. The smell of lavender, for instance, may mean planting flowers to one person, receiving flowers to another. It could also mean aromatherapy and relaxation to another person. It may also indicate the entry of the DREAM SCENARIO, and when a person smells the scent in the waking state while moving through their daily life they will understand that the DREAM is now taking place.
The smell of Sour Milk can indicate that a relationship has gone sour; that a particular person has outgrown the place where they are in life, and has not learned the appropriate lesson(s) to move forward in an adult manner; it can indicate that a particular person is stuck in a position with ideas or a way of thinking that is no good and serves no purpose. FRESHNESS is always an indication of something new and better.
Having and maintaining a DREAM JOURNAL is very helpful when it comes to DREAMING and the SENSES. The DREAM JOURNAL allows you to keep track of every message that comes through in your DREAMS. . . The sights, sounds, and smells.
The SIGHTS that you SEE in your DREAMS can and do flash back to you in the waking state. The question is, did you journal the DREAM? Did you detail the sights in your DREAM? Did you seek to try to examine and understand what you saw in your DREAM? Is it a memory sight or a future sight? Is the sight a reminder to you of how to behave? Should you watch out for something because of this place that you saw in your DREAM? Is it a place that you are dreaming of living in? In the waking state, are you coming closer to your DREAM SIGHT?
Sounds can awake, relax, frighten, excite, WARN, and/or trigger joyful feelings. An ALARM going off in a DREAM is one of the most heightened of the DREAM SOUNDS. It is a WARNING. An ALARM asks you to be aware, change direction, pay attention, act, or not act ~ i.e., stand back, back up, don't do what you may have purposed to do in a particular situation. More than anything else, an ALARM informs you and advises you to STOP and UNDERSTAND.
The SOUND of MUSIC can bring you back to a more relaxed state of BEING. MUSIC can make you smile, laugh, and usually brings forth joyfulness. MUSIC always asks you to lighten up and get in touch with your artistical and/or musical side.

The dreams are hiding on me again.. I can't remember the last time I got one written down/remembered one.
Do share some of your DREAMS with us once you get a moment. Thanks for adding your input to this Article Karen.
Sketchbooks are also good for keeping track of your DREAMS ~ drawing the imagery, and adding clippings that remind you of the visuals in your dream are good ways to instantly come back to your dream content (in your mind) when you review the DREAM Sketchbook.
DREAM BLESSINGS ~ Your Friend ~ Rene
Now unknown spirits (those both good and bad) can sometimes bring with them various scents -- good smells and bad smells respectively. Rebuking the bad spirits, and also being careful not to invite them into your life is my advice. And, in particular not picking up bad habits and bad behaviors ~ and/or going to unsavory places ~ or being with unsavory people.
Being prayerful is ALWAYS WISE.
Thank you for commenting!
The Japanese had invaded and taken over my hometown in anticipation of their attack on Pearl Harbor on the other end of our nation's soveignty (my hometown is in Maine).
Anyhow the other youngsters in town and I fought an underground guerilla war to reclaim our town, not too much unlike Patrick Swayze and his costars did in Red Dawn. Though I do not believe Red Dawn influenced my dream at all since I have not seen that particular movie in over a decade. The Japanese didn't invade from the sky they arrived by ship courtesy of the Androscoggin River, which in real world would not have been possible. It was a great dream, I killed a few folks while escaping my own death several times. Lots of scents: gunpowder, the mill, diesel and blood.
Thanks for the post!
peace~blessings
A 1940's dream in your hometown ~ way before you ever saw the town -- or was even born much less. (Maine -- interesting). It is possible that your dream is calling for you to do a little research on your Hometown, as well as The Japanese culture and Pearl Harbor.
The scents in your DREAM: Gunpowder, the mill, diesel fuel, and blood.
I don't really know what blood smells like, or if I've ever even attributed a "smell" to it -- more color for me with this element.
There seems to be more to your dream in relation to the elements (scents) that you've described. What do you know about "The Mill"? -- was it a Mill that you are familiar with, or one that you only saw for the first time in your dream? What was happening with the diesel fuel in your dream? What was going on in relation to the gunpowder? What about the blood? -- did you just smell it only, or also "SEE" it?
Blood ~ Is symbolic of the "Life~Force". Also "Bloodlines"...Relatives and Family. Sometimes in connection with murders, violence, bloodshed, and/or warnings to be "careful", blood will appear in dreams.
Another thing that comes to my mind about your DREAM, Robert ~ is JAPANESE AUTO MAKERS, and shipments of Japanese vehicles through the passage of MAINE.
I'd like to hear some more details about your fascinating DREAM ~ Hurry back!

JOURNALS are good for notes and ideas relating not only to DREAMS, but to NOVEL WRITING ~ as you've mentioned Marie, INVENTIONS, PAINTINGS, DESIGNS, ILLUSTRATION IDEAS ~ and on and on...
The important thing that I'm trying to bring out here in this Gather Group is that our DREAMS provide us with INSPIRATION and direction ~ as well as GUIDANCE and ANSWERS to our daily questions ~ and RESOLUTION to problems and challenges.
The more you write the pieces of your dream in your NEW DREAM JOURNAL Marie ~ {smiles}, the more you will come to find that you will remember more and more of your dreams in greater detail.
Let us know if you begin to SEE RESULTS from your DREAM JOURNAL.
This often happens when I have a piece of writing in the pot.
I think I'll write down a question at bedtime and see if I get a response.
Thanks for your help.
I love your artworks. And, I find it interesting that you occasionally awaken with visual hints regarding your paintings. Sketchbooks work wonders for drawing out the VISUAL HINTS.
I'd be interested in hearing if you do get a response from your question at bedtime. I've done that and was amazed at the repeated answers.
Thanks for adding in more input.
I haven't logged this one down yet, but I had a dream last night (well, this morning lol) about me being hurt. I had a hurt arm and kept trying to get it fixed at the Dr's. But instead of fixing it just kept getting worse. Eventually I needed a cast (I woke before I got that)
I also dreamed of diamonds. I think they fell out of my shoes (think they decorated them) and I was carrying them or trying to along with novel notes with my one good arm. I left them behind when going into the Doctor and grabbed them again, only to leave them behind again to go in to get the cast.
Any ideas?
Which arm was hurt in your dream?
DIAMONDS are a very GOOD DREAM. Especially because they fell out of your shoes.
KEY FACTORS in your dreams:
ARM, DOCTOR, CAST, DIAMONDS, SHOES, DECORATION, and NOVEL NOTES.
I'll be back with more insight. Let me know the answer as far as which arm?
So, that's the feeling I get.. that it was the left arm.
Let me analyze your dreams a little further . . .
I'll be back later on today with MORE.
I was told during a palm reading to in so many words to take an opportunity that comes about. Perhaps it's that?
And just for the record, I'm right handed. :P
"I had a hurt arm and kept trying to get it fixed at the Dr's. But instead of fixing it just kept getting worse. Eventually I needed a cast (I woke before I got that)" ~ Jennifer N.
After what you just added above, the dream is saying you are taking GOOD MONEY, and putting it towards the WRONG THING. That is why you had a hurt left arm in your dream. Instead of your arm getting fixed, it kept getting worse, meaning that you continued to put GOOD MONEY towards the WRONG THING, and you were not taking heed to the "hurt" that you were feeling from it.
You also stated ~ "Eventually I needed a cast (I woke before I got that)" ~ Jennifer N. . . .
This means that you are SEEing what could possibly be the RESULT of your ACTIONS, and you have time to TURN -- that is why you woke before you got to the cast.
Now comes the DIAMONDS . .
"I also dreamed of diamonds. I think they fell out of my shoes (think they decorated them) and I was carrying them or trying to along with novel notes with my one good arm." ~ Jennifer N.
This means that your NOVEL that you are "carrying" is WORTH SOMETHING. Notice you have a STRONG GOOD ARM. You are carrying it along, but you get side~tracked . . .
"I left them behind when going into the Doctor and grabbed them again, only to leave them behind again to go in to get the cast." ~ Jennifer N.
My advice from this dream that you had -- put your MONEY into your WRITING and your NOVEL. Leave the Wizard 101 subscription for another time -- (if ever.) . . .
The OPPORTUNITY is where you are headed towards (with what is in your GOOD STRONG ARM) ~ thus your shoes are decorated with diamonds. Just don't get side~tracked.
Let me know your thoughts. [I'm betting that you won't agree with me on this interpretation, because you do not want it to be so. . . ]

Perhaps. I know the subscription was pricy - something I typically don't do, but this game I really liked - and it was a discounted fee from what the games usually run. As for the hurt, yeah my bank account has less than $1 in it. LOL. That hurts, all right. :P I need to fix that, but doing that also takes away from writing. I can't both make money online and write. It's one or the other.

Worth something how? To whom also? And which novel? LOL There's a few of them and none are completely written (but they are fully plotted) And yes, in life I always am sidetracked from them. Always. Family, crafts, making money, gaming, it all takes away from the novels. And usually they are what is pushed aside out of everything else (unless it's November, which is one reason why I always participate in NaNoWriMo... though many don't seem to GET why I like the event so much)

Now this is interesting, how would I put my money toward it? I have many books to hone my craft here... and use library and online sources mostly for research (but I have a few forensic books here that I did buy)
As for the subscription, it went through last Monday. The discount was only til today, and Gideon wanted in on the locked areas, so we did it pretty quick. It's a one year subscription, so there's time to play and do other things too.
While Gideon plays I work on my novel preparations for NaNo (Usually an interview with Valerie. I may post that here for you and Sammie to read. It's kinda interesting) Of course I also watch him to see it he needs help and see how good he's getting at the game. Sometimes he sits in my lap and games, other times he tells me he wants to play himself now that he knows how. Heheh.

So, what's that mean? Push other things aside and put the writing in the forefront? And again which novel? Joy? Flowers? Fade? Art? The un-named fantasy?

No, I can see past what I want to know sometimes what I need. Sometimes, LOL. I just wish I knew more clearly which novel it was referring to. Joy has been the only one I've been working on for months, I'm led to believe it's that one. It's also that one that has so many interested in it... many who I've never met before they've commented on my assignments on it.
Thanks for the insight. I'm not sure I would have come up with that out of it. Did you read the others? The two part one here (also novel related) and the others at ning? There might be a patter with the two part one and this one. Not sure.
9hugs)
Jennifer
I'd say ~ The NOVEL ~ "Fade and Remain".
But, do what you "feel" in your spirit in terms of which Novel ~ You think "Joy in Unexpected Places". COULD BE BOTH -- at the same time, or back to back.
I'll read the others . . . Gotta still get over to Ning!
Let me know your thoughts.
Now I need to think a bit about what one I thought it was.
I made an error above, too. Sammie thought the 2-part dream wasn't referring to joy, but Art, my 09 NaNo novel.
"Fade and Remain" is my favorite. I'm surprised to hear you say that it feels like a lot more work ~ l o l ~ that's probably because you put a lot of work into it! ahahah ~ could that be why? {I'm cracking myself up you know}.
"Art" ~ nice title for a Novel Jen -- it sparks interest. People will wonder what it is about.
The rest as a whole is good, but others stick out in my mind more.
Art is actually short for the full novel title. :P
And ~ ART short for the full novel title? Did you ever tell me the full title, or are you going to leave us all hanging? -- secrets, secrets...
I think you did know the full title as it was on my NaNo profile last year. I think it's not there now, though since I updated it with Joy. :P
The full title is The Art Of Dying.
I can't wait either but it might be a bit rougher on me this year since I need to work during NaNo vs not working all month. I can swing it and the camera is worth it, so I'll make it work :P
I think you'll do just fine Jen. We'll have to get Renda, Maryanne, and Tracey back on the scene.
