What are you doing to save a dollar?

I have a friend who cuts my hair for free.  This saves me about $150 a year.

If I don't have to drive over 50 miles and the weather isn't too bad, I drive my 93 pickup.   This keeps the miles and maintenance down on my newer car.  Therefore it will last longer, and I won't have to buy a new (new to me) one for a few more years.

I started trying to use only 1 garbage bag a week.  The bigger items, I put directly into the collection barrel.  One box of garbage bags now lasts me a whole year!

So now you tell me what you are doing?  Maybe we can help each other save a buck!

We are also growing out own veggies and canning them to save on grocery bills

Good tips all. Many of which I impliment. I also try to conserve on my energy usage. Hence electric, and water. I try to save gas whenever possible, which in this rural area is hard. I plan my shopping. I circle all the items, in a circular, that I feel are a good buy, and needed. Sometimes I may go to two different stores, perviding they are both on the same route. Buy one get one free deals are great!

I try to use coupons whenever I can and maximize my gift cards on holidays. I bought most of my Christmas gifts this year with gift cards! I live near a grocery store so I get a good workout walking down there with my baby rather than driving & wasting gas.

I live in a small can do everthing there type of village. The store is way over priced but when you factor in the cost of gas to drive 40 miles then well................

I try to do all my shopping in 1 trip, plus I stopped driving to the post office as often. I used to go 3-4 times a week now I go once a week its saving me a lot in gas.

Other than that, I'm not a very good penny pincher. I wish I was better though.

I thought that I had already responded to this one, but I can't find my response. I have started buying the bagged cereals instead of the boxed cereals. You get like three times as much for just $1.00, a box usually takes my family 1 or 2 days to finish, the bags last for a week.

Go to movies paying matinee price. Don't drive anywhere except work.
we only drive our vehicles when it's a must and we try to get all of our things done in one trip...
I collect and save water from the snow and rain in 5 gallon pickle buckets and any unused garbage cans for use in the gardens, and we also use our dish and bath water for this too....

the city of Omaha has recently told me we can't save mother nature's water..this means I have to find a better way to hide these...
luckily we have 3 bag your own grocery stores really close to our house, so we go there for most of our food needs, and I also cut coupons
I haven't had a hair cut in years, mostly due to the fact of not having much left....
and my wife has a friend that comes to the house who cuts her hair for free...
I am always turning off the lights in rooms when we're not in them...
and I changed over to the new light bulbs too

I bought a laser printer. Its expensive, but it will save me money in the long run cause the ink lasts forever.

I changed hours at work, no more long drives to the sitter, no more paying the sitter! Save about $175 a week!!!
