It is insane that our legal system does more to protect the "rights" of illegals, (who do not have "rights" that are afforded to LEGAL immigrants and citizens) than the rights of the American people. I have read no less than 7 police reports this week, from cities across the country regarding the arrests of illegals for various crimes. At no time have they been detained or Immigration contacted. In fact in several cities in CA, the police are directed NOT to contact immigration. What is worse are cities and states such as CA and AZ, that are trying to prevent law enforcement from even verifying whether the people they have arrested are citizens. I understand policies that might help prevent visual profiling, but I for the life of me, cannot fathom that it would be a problem verifying citizenship on someone who has committed a crime especially if the crime is of a violent nature, or drug dealing. Not only are they not contacting immigration, but these criminals are often released back onto OUR streets "pending" hearings and trials, for which they never appear. I have been in the courtroom when some illegals were to have appeared before the judges, and their names are called several times througout the hearings, and they do not appear.
If they are not going to be held for their crime, pending trial, then they should be turned over to immigration, since they have nothing to lose by simply ignoring the order to appear. They are basically untracable, since they can and do provide false information, and simply change their name once again. Now some of you will say "prove it", and I can say unequivically I have seen it first hand, because my step-daughter dated and lived with an illegal who did just that. When he found out I had informed the police of this, he took off, and hasn't been located.
It's time the rights of the AMERICAN citizens be protected, and all law enforcement officers be expected to run an immigration status on EVERY criminal they suspect of being illegal. In fact, since they are already being processed, it should not be too difficult to make that another standard of the intake process. If they are indeed here illegally, then they must NOT be released back onto the street until the crime/s for which they have been arrested are resolved. Then they should only be released to immigration and deported.
Innocent until proven guilty is fine, but if they are illegal, then they are already guilty of a crime!!!

If you don't like it, vote them out.
Dorothy, you are so very right! I vote every election, and I get so fed up with people complaining, and I ask them if they voted, and they say no. Many give the excuse that their vote won't make any difference anyway. Well I don't know how many more times I can say this, but if you do not like ANY of the candidates in whatever the election is, you simply have to write NOTA across your ballot. Judging from the number of people I have spoken to that do not want ANY of the present candidates, if they all voted and wrote NOTA on their ballot, I think we could succeed in forcing a new election with new candidates. Unfortunately, most will not vote, and they will just continue to complain.
I have not, nor has anyone else stated that the police or sheriffs themselves should be deporting anyone. When a crime has been committed, and the person is suspected of being illegal, then he should be turned over to ICE and held until he appears in court.
If someone has already been stopped for or aprehended for committing a crime, there is no reason checking his citizenship should not be done, if they have reason to suspect the person is illegal. i.e. They speak little or no english!!!
No, our law enforcement can't and shouldn't have the right to deport, but they SHOULD have the right to turn suspected illegals over to ICE!!!
I spent 10 years in AZ, and still visit several times a year for weeks at a time, and the problem with illegals is worse than ever. Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa County was working hard at getting these illegals off the streets and behind bars or back to their own countries, until the Gov interfered and removed funding.
If our law enforcement is supposed to turn a blind eye to the fact that someone they encounter in a routine stop or call, is also committing a crime by being here illegally, then what good are our immigration laws in the first place?
Additional training on a local level is necessary yes, but to prevent them from checking on the legal status of someone they have stopped, if they appear to be illegal, is about as rediculous as telling an officer he has no right to search a vehicle for drugs if he only gets the hint of pot when he stops the driver.
I, on the other hand, had a very dear friend whose car was rear-ended on an expressway in El Paso, by an illegal alien from Mexico. He was so drunk that he could not walk but he was driving, without a license ,with no insurance and a fake ID.
Charles' car exploded, trapping two small boys in the back seat and burning his wife and son in the front seat over more that 50% of their bodies.
Charles could hear the boys scream and he tried so hard to reach them that he was burned over 96% of his body. He died from his injuries. His surviving son has nightmares still after many many years. What the tragedy did to his Mother and Father I will not descrube. He was a most beloved only child.
The man who hit them was released, pending a hearing. He did not appear for that hearing. The medical expenses were enormous and the recovery time for Shirley and Tye was long and painfilled. Had it not been for the generosity of Charles' co-workers and that of strangers they would have been unable to afford the surgery needed to restore them to some semblance of "normal looking"
As for Charles and his baby boys, There are a lot of us who will never forget that they would been alive today if that man had not committed the crimes of crossing into the U.S. illegally, driving illegally and driving drunk. He was not brought to justice for any of them.
