Are you an organ donor? Do you have that little box checked on your drivers lisence? Do the people around you know that if you were to die what your wishes are or are not?
Are you religous?
Cuz from what I understand, if you're Roman Catholic, Jewish or other such religions, you are supposed to be buried whole so your entire body goes to Heaven.
Yet, I would think to do the "good" thing, God would want you to help someone live.
So what's right? Be selfish and keep your entire body even though you don't need it because of religious restrictions or be selfless and give of yourself so another can live?

Later my father had medication complications after the transplant and passed away. He then became an organ donor.

Hi! Gave you a 10! Thank you for posting to imagepoints.gather.com
Over half of the 99,000 Americans on the national transplant waiting list will die before they get a transplant. Most of these deaths are needless. Americans bury or cremate about 20,000 transplantable organs every year. Over 6,000 of our neighbors suffer and die needlessly every year as a result.
There is a simple way to put a big dent in the organ shortage -- give organs first to people who have agreed to donate their own organs when they die.
Giving organs first to organ donors will convince more people to register as organ donors. It will also make the organ allocation system fairer. People who aren't willing to share the gift of life should go to the back of the waiting list as long as there is a shortage of organs.
Anyone who wants to donate their organs to others who have agreed to donate theirs can join LifeSharers. LifeSharers is a non-profit network of organ donors who agree to offer their organs first to other organ donors when they die. Membership is free at www.lifesharers.org or by calling 1-888-ORGAN88. There is no age limit, parents can enroll their minor children, and no one is excluded due to any pre-existing medical condition.
I am religious.
I was raised to belive our soul goes to heaven and our body is left behind. So, why would people not donate? To me that is selfish. You are dead.....please do the last good thing you can ever do..Help someone else live by donating your organs when you die.
Organ donation allows people with failing organs to be relieved of some of the suffering that comes with the health issues which cause that suffering. Diabetics with renal failure can be allowed to live without the aid of kidney dialysis, for instance, and donation of one's eyes can give a blind person the chance to see. Healing others follows the example of miracles attributed to God in many different religions.
In light of these things, I would think that organ donation would be a positive religious act for many people... a last act of giving that which one can spare to those who have need of it.
I am no expert in religion, but to me, that seems the most sensible, logical viewpoint on the matter. :)
