HPV Prevention--Good or Bad ?

Okay so it has made its mark pretty-much statewide in commercials spots and magazine in-betweens and many young ladies sing, "I want to be Oneless" . . . but mothers, single women with neices, friends of ladies whose children look up to you, Is this vaccination really safe?

My question is Gardasil, Yes  or  No ??

My answer is that given the facts with which we have been armed regarding FDA approval of drugs that are later recalled for several reasons, including deaths, I'd wait at least 5 years, let them experiment with others first, and then decide.

If I had daughters, I would get them vaccinated. Sons, too- HPV can cause throat and mouth cancers in men. That is, if I could afford the danged thing. New vaccines are expensive.

I think the vaccine is safer than getting the virus and having it lead to cancer.

Janet, but what if vaccinating exacerbates a dormant virus and brings it to a threatening light? Why wake up something that is dormant for a reason. Up until 2005, we never heard of HPV going haywire ! Its the pesticides, birth control pills now, various cremes, jellies and sprays for prophylactic use--ALL of which manifest into a threat as found in the various cancers affecting gynecological & endocrinological areas.

I wonder what the rare side effects could be,do they say?

I would hope it would be a good prevention to getting cancer.
It's hard to know what's safe though.

Erin where did you find the information you state this, "Sons, too- HPV can cause throat and mouth cancers in men"--I haven't found much positive or any proof-bearing it is safe for you documentation on it yet . . . so I am curious?

Janet but don't you think injecting the live virus into the body can manifest into the full-blown cancer it is supposed to restrain from accepting ?

Janet, Are you aware of what a vaccination really is ? Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material (the Vaccine) to produce immunity to a disease. Vaccines can prevent or ameliorate the effects of infection by a pathogen. It is considered to be the most effective and cost-effective method of preventing infectious diseases. The material administrated can either be live, but weakened forms of pathogens such as bacteria or viruses, killed or inactivated forms of these pathogens, or purified material such as proteins. Smallpox was the first disease people tried to prevent by purposely inoculating themselves with other types of infections; smallpox inoculation was started in China or India before 200 BC.[1]

You do remember the polio vaccines? These were shots given to people with the 'live virus' in the vaccine which either was resisted against by a strong immune system or subjected to getting the disease itself . . .

Because the vaccine only contains a protein, and not the entire virus, the vaccine cannot cause the HPV infection. It is the body's immune response to the recombinant protein(s) that then protects against infection by the naturally occurring virus.
This is a quote from the FDC who also estimates that 50% of sexually active people who don't get the shots will get the virus in their lifetime.

As a cervical cancer survivor I had my daughter vaccinated right away. I'd say yes for anyone. Why play with cancer?

Lesli, were you ever advised on how your cervical cancer started? What pre-empted the cultivation of cancerous cells that a simple pap smear shows? I have an ovarian cyst, fortunately benign, but at first they were not sure. I hear you, I regard your decision to inoculate your daughter with the highest esteem but there are dangers to it. To anything manufactured in a lab from something already in your bodies not needing encouragement to manifest into cancer, unless pre-disposed which the vaccine would now do. My sister suffered from cervical dysplasia, my mom with ovarian cysts, my grandmother with colon-rectal cancer and great grandmother both maternally and paternally sided, all had horrible gynecological difficulties, many due to pesticides, chemicals, tap water, HRT therapies, BC pills, IUD's, allergy medicines, milk . . . do you want me to list them all?

But alkalinity for the most part is the best cure for warding off any cancerous-growing environment and Gardisil does not promote that.

I would not. It has only been out for a short time, so the side effects are really unknown. Also, Cervical cancer is routinely screened for and for the most part treatable.

That is an awfully high estimation. Did the drug company make that one up?
I do know 2 people who have hpv or are with someone who has it or have dealt with the cancer cells. But most people I know are tested regularly and are negative.

I would rather have an open relationship with my children and provide them with the best eduction on the topic as possible and work with prevention in other ways than to give them a vaccine that is brand new. How many drugs did the FDA recall after claiming that it was perfectly safe for use? Some of them took a lot of years before they realized this mistake. We know the evils of hpv but we don't know what's lurking in the vaccine's future.
