This is a news story from a few years ago ... I was living in Flint Michigan when two of my pitt bulls were stolen from a fenced in kennel inside a fenced in yard. Read the story to see the end results. If you know or suspect anyone of abusing an animal .. or fighting dogs please call and report them. In my situation the authorities would do nothing saying they 'were only dogs' So I had to get the media involved. Pitt Bulls are not bad dogs. They are very loyal loving animals but it is all in how you handle them and raise them...
Pit bulls were stolen for dog fighting
By Bisi Onile-Ere
Flint â€" (05/06/05)--Thursday a Genesee County Animal Control crew went to an abandoned house on Flint's north side.
Inside were four pit bulls, and two of them were dead. And woman's search for her missing dogs ended with a gruesome discovery.
Bisi Onile-Ere had more.
It's a problem that local animal control crews face every day: an abandoned house turns into a boxing ring for dog fighters. While those responsible tend to get away, the dogs are either killed or left to die.
Dena Allen says 7-month-old Izzie and 9-month-old Kayla went missing from their backyard kennel last Friday night. She spent that entire evening searching the neighborhood for her two pit bulls, but they were nowhere to be found.
"On Friday I drove all over looking for them," Allen said. "I put up signs Saturday asking for people in the area to let me know if they'd seen my dogs."
It wasn't too long after posting the signs that Allen received a call from someone telling her that her dogs were inside an abandoned house. And when she got here, she couldn't believe her eyes.
"It wasn't just my dogs, there was blood on the walls," she said. "There were other dogs tied up inside of the house. Some had already died. There were dead cats in the home, and dead cats outside in the yard."
Genesee County Animal Control recovered three dogs. One was alive and two were dead. Izzie returned home with Allen in very bad shape. And there was still no sign of Kayla.
"I think yeah they were fighting them, definitely," Allen said. "Mine is tore up (sic) from head to toe."
An animal control official says crews usually see the end result of these dog fights, and oftentimes the fighting goes undetected or is simply ignored.
The abandoned house on the 100 Block of Holbrook is marked for demolition.
Dog fighting is considered a crime in Michigan. It's a felony that could lead to jail time and/or thousands of dollars in fines.
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated
