The Cherry Tree (photos and thoughts)

So I just wanted to share with you this editorial I read this morning, I believe written to The Boston Globe...it's GOOD!  LOL!

Below are some photographs of a baby cherry tree--weeping.  I woke up to the blossoms last week and already they are gone.  I thought of Japan, and the riveting novel, "Memoirs Of A Geisha"--the imagery!  I thought of how fleeting the cherry blossoms are and how fleeting each moment that I live.  Each moment matters, then it passes.  I strive, too, to be free as the cherry tree...

Beautiful essay. I love Memories of Geisha, I have read it probably a dozen times. Our Cherry trees have already lost their blossoms. Hopefully we will have tons of cherries this year

Gosh, thanks so much all of you. Wow. I tend to think that as Wilhelmine mentioned that in Mass, the dogwoods AND cherries are the first to bloom. The flowers of the cherry are so fleeting and don't last more than two days in full bloom, I don't think. The petals fall so delicately, lighter than tissue paper! I also love when the wind carries them...

Great shots Jennifer, the blossoming of the cherry trees is such a beautiful thing. It is true that they bloom and go back into hiding but they do renew themselves and their beauty comes back again. I think that is true of so many beautiful things, they are never truly gone, as long as you remember them they are still there and they also have a way of coming back. This is also true of some people especially my Terry, even though I can not be with her right now I know that all of that beauty is there for me and I will be with her again and again.

Beautiful, beautiful. My cherry tree is, gosh, about thirty years old now, and a main branch died and fell away a few years back, plus, nobody prunes any of the trees and the woodpeckers [the speckled black and whites with red top notches] keep the bark riddled with holes in search of bugs . . . All this to say that the blossoms still come in breathtaking wondrous abundant display -- brief, but there, and gorgeous, like your photos. Thanks.

Each bloom is but for a moment...capturing it with the camera helps to hold that moment for others to see the beauty of nature...eyecandy...we can not smell the fragrance of the bloom nor reach out to touch it with other than our eyes...
