Summer jumped.
Who could be knocking?
At first, she thought it might be her parents; but why would they knock?
The knock came again; this time louder, rattling the windows.
Summer began to shake. A lump formed in her throat. She scrunched down between the sofa and coffee table; to afraid to move.
The knocking became persistent.
"Go away," she whispered, covering her ears. "God, please bring my parents back," she prayed.
Summer thought she heard her name.
"Summer Blue. Summer Blue..."
Summer's body shook with fear. Who was calling for her? And, what did they want?
The living room door flew open wide, causing a loud thud.
"Noooo!" Summer screamed out, quickly making a dash for the stairs.
"Summer Blue," She heard the voice again; but this time, it was closer.
Summer looked over her shoulder, but did not see anyone. In her haste for the stairs, she tripped over one of her roller blades. As she scrambled to get up, she felt hands wrap around her ankles. She looked frantically behind her; but there still was no one there. Yet, something or someone was pulling her; dragging her towards the open door.
Her breath was caught in her throat. Her mouth opened, but nothing came out.
"Summer Blue. Summer Blue. Summer Blue..."
Summer tried to reach for the banister, as she began kicking and screaming.
"No! No! Let me goooooo! Please! I don't want to go! Leave me alone! Mom! Dad! Where are you?!" Summer's stretched her fingers, but couldn't reach the banister, as the invisible force dragged her towards the open door.
"Let me go! Let me go!" she screamed to no avail.
Sliding across the floor, Summer's arms flailed. She tried her best to get a grip on something...anything. When she looked out the door, Summer beheld a whirlwind; much like a tornado. She could feel herself being pulled in, helpless to do anything to stop it. For the force around her ankles proved to be too strong.
Summer heard her name once more. "Summer Blue. Summer Blue." However, this time she heard more. "Summer Blue. We Have been waiting for you."
Summer began to wail. "Mom! Dad! Help me, please! Maaaaaaaaaa!"
The force that had her ankles released her. Only sending her into the whirlwind that stood at the opening of her front door.
Summer cried. "Please! Please! I'm just a little girl! Let me go!"
As she slid across the threshold of the door, Summer grabbed onto the door frame. Holding on with both hands, for dear life, she tightened her hands until her knuckles were white.
Summer was lifted off the ground, floating like a magic carpet. The force of the wind tunnel was proving to be too much, for her arms began to tire, and her grip loosened. One by one, her fingers came from the frame, and Summer felt herself being sucked into the vortex of the whirlwind.
"Summer Blue, we have been expecting you," was the last thing, Summer heard...

cute story.
Thanks Reena! I had fun with this.
Thanks Wanda and Ali! My three nieces, 10, 11, 13, all read at HS level. They love books thataren't too silly. They've read all Lemmony Snickett books twice. And, they love all kinds of mysteries and adventures. I always write for them first. Because they definitely know what they like and don't like.
