I love a lot about my Gather experience. I have some awesome people, had fun creating some poetry and writing some short stories. I have enjoyed receiving emails about others' articles of import and learned some terrific things.
But, speaking of emails, (yes I did bring it up, but still...) I wish, oh how I wish that everyone doing a mass email would use the BCC function to hide all the other receipients! When you are mailing to all 752 friends, that gets to be quite a list! It makes this long, annoying email that I have to scroll down, past all 752 names and user names, with parantheses included to get to one little line of interest to me.
Using the BCC function is would make my day much easier and I bet a lot of others feel the same way! It isn't hard to select all your friends in the friends window, just go click on the first name and then drag down the whole list, they will all turn blue. Hit the BCC button and they will all appear in the address line. I know that is like 2 more clicks or moves that just hitting the 'all my friends' button but just think how happy all your friends will be!
Please weigh in! What are your thoughts on this momentous issue. Well, you may not agree that it is momentous, would you settle for mildly annoying? ;o)

I have had a few emails with that long list of names, and I think you are right, using that option cuts down on alot of wasted time on the behalf of the person reading your mass email
(And on that note, I wish more new how to do the quick html code to turn their addresses into actual links.)
You aren't supposed to tell them how to hide it.

I want to reply to people, and tell them to do this....but I hate to make people mad!
I also get annoyed at a large number of mass emails by a single person in one day.
I don't have much time to read everything I'd like to in the first place, and posting my own photos or articles has taken a back seat to some more important works I am involved in right now, so I tend to get annoyed when I get 20 emails for "games" or nonsensical junk that is just a clear attempt to build points.

Good luck in April hitting the magic number, I'll check on other things you have.
I say-- "reduce your friends down to 2 or 3 it will make life easier!"...hehehe..lol!
Too many years in management makes me too aware of how easy it is to hurt people's feelings by the direct approach over something like this, which is really trivial, in the grand scheme of things. But a shotgun approach with education is a good way to get a point across without picking someone out individually. Besides I never look at who is sending it, just scrolling down to find the jewel. ;o)
As for mass emails, here are my thoughts:
1. I don't mind receiving them, but not for every article or photo that the person has ever done!
2. Also, when people have chats and invite you, they should at least acknowledge you when you enter the chat and say hello or something! There is one person in particular that sends me an invitation, and doesn't say anything at all or acknowledge me in any way when I enter the chat! That really pisses me off!
3. I don't mind receiving mass emails in general. If you haven't heard from me in a while, I welcome the reminder. I really care about my friends, and I sometimes stumble upon someone who has fallen through the cracks.
4. For some reason with the new system, I'm not able to follow people like I did before, and I really don't want anyone to feel neglected!
5. I try not to send mass emails too often. Usually when I'm in a CRISIS, I will send one. My friends as wonderful, and very supportive. The other reason, is when I am really excited about something or proud of something (like my grand-daughter's karate.)
Back the the BCC. Here's now I do it:
I send it to myself.
I cc to myself
I bcc to everyone else.
I always to a test one first, to make sure that my program is working properly. Here's what I do:
I send it to myself
I cc myself, with the message just like I would normally send it. It comes back to me. I open the email and click on the link. If it takes me where it's supposed to, then I repeat the above and add the bcc.
