Welcome to Manito Park nestled among Victorian homes on the historic South Hill of Spokane WA.

I have pics somewhere but DH has moved them and I can find them. Brad's are very nice.
There are many garden rooms in this park from the duck pond and native plant display, to a formal garden with a fountain. There is the Japenese garden with koi pond where my brother-in-law married his lady love and my favorite, an acre of roses, Rose Hill.
Just the place to relax and enjoy each other.
We'll enter near the duck pond as the parking is better there.
As one might imagine our pixie princess is particularly fond of this part of the park. There is a large lawn to picnic on and watch kids run and play.
The rose garden is just across the road. As you might imagine I have gigabits of pictures from this garden. It is mantained entirely by volunteers from the local Rose Society.
This photo must be early season because the climbing roses aren't covering the pergola.
At peak season I could live here. Down the hill at the back of this display are the old garden roses. The smell is intoxicating when the once bloomers are in full flush.
To enter the Japanese garden one must traverse a flight of narrow flagstone steps. The garden never fully opens up to view. For full effect one must take in splendor in delicious bits.
Even on the hottest day this garden is cool due to it's location and canopy of shade trees. Sorry, we're not supposed to feed the fish.
Duncan garden is the jewel of the park. All of the plants are grown in the green houses on site. Although you can't see them in this photo the garden is flanked with Dahlias, some the size of dinner plates. The local Dahlia society tends to them and lifts the bulbs in the fall.

The view from the grand stair case is breathtaking, especially in the spring.
This fountain anchors the back of the garden and many wedding photos are taken here.

HI Wendy.
And I am the Trinity
On the treadmill. Makes typing fun. I'm off to Borders today. Just leave me a trail of breadcrumbs.
The pictures are wonderful.
Judi, what do you do? Prop the laptop on the handles?
I spoke too soon on the last thread. I see that Beth is A SCRIPT FRENZY WINNAH!
Way to go, Beth! Now, wasn't that fun?
Love, love, love the garden, Wendy. But you knew I would, didn't you? When I win the powerball jackpot tonight I'm using some of the money to landscape the backyard of my mansion as a japanese garden. They are so peaceful.
Jamie, it isn't a failure. It's a WIP.
Off to the opera. Later.
For the graphically challenged among us, would someone kindly remind me how to post a graphic in comments? Thankee much.
I'm going to eat a very late breakfast. See everyone later.
*a href="IMAGE URL"***img src="IMAGE URL"/***/a**
replace *with < and ** with > and *** with >< (the image URL needs to be in there twice as shown)
Beaker, I hope Jr continues to feel better. I hate when the little ones get sick. Say is your color improving?
Good day Paul.. nice to see you around.
Yeah to Beth and John!
Jamie I knew you'd love it here. Isn't it purdy?
Life is a highway and I want to ride it all night long....
Pixie princess has settled on a movie she will watch. Cars
Life is a highway... I may break out in Disney song here and there..
Sia the lilac garden, which isn't blooming yet, is just up the hill from the Japanese garden. Spokane is the Lilac city.. have I mentioned that? hmm
Poor Wombat Junior. Glad he's at least playing a little bit.
John, is there an easy way to adjust size of images?
The report is in: You are an official Script Frenzy 2008 winner!
WaHoo!!!
You are hereby authorized to celebrate deep into the night, sleep in and skip school or work tomorrow, and brag about your feat to everyone you've ever known.
In April, you set out on a writing adventure that lead to the creation of new worlds and beings. Sure, there were times you could have turned back. In fact, many did. But not you. Not this time. You juggled your schedule, flipped your priorities, and wrote like crazy.
We salute your imagination and perseverance. The question we ask you now is this: If you were able to write a not-horrible 100 pages in 30 days, what else can you do?
-------------
"What else can you do?" Are they kidding? You mean we gotta do somethin' else?
But I bet Kevin the Site Wizard has an article on that.
In my second novel, I have placed gardens leading into gardens leading into gardens. Rather like you have shown here. I didn't realize I was describing a literal place!
Household chores are calling. Demanding, rather. So I'll see if I can whip through a few things and then get back to writing. I'm eager to read through my script, pare it down, then post for feedback.
And I know that a couple of you were looking for feedback yesterday. I'll try to look at that stuff today too.
And someone might want to rescue Ken. He's lost in a stygian morass on the other thread.
img src="hackanm.gif" width="20" height="20" / all between <> with whatever pixel size you want for the width and height
They're coming to take me away ho ho hee hee ha haaa
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see those nice young men
In their clean white coats
And they're coming to take me away ha haaa
"Aw, shut up. We got until tomorrow night." Red leaned out the window again. "How do we get to Clearwater from here?"
Leonard thought for moment.
"I don't think you can."
Red blinked a few times. Okay, he thought.
"You got any maps in there?" He nodded towards the station.
"Sure! I just bought all kinds of maps!"
Leonard was elated. He had yet to sell a map. Red swung the truck into the side of the clearing opposite the campers and left it running as he climbed down. The hippies came running. They walked around the truck, leaving hand prints on the dusty sides. Red followed Leonard over to the shiny new map display. Red searched through them.
"Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas." He frowned at Leonard. "You got any Florida maps in here?" Leonard frowned back.
"No. We're in Florida. Why would you need a map of Florida?" Red blinked a few more times.
"Of course. What was I thinking?"

Great photos Wendy. Looks like a nice place to stroll.
John and Beth, congrats and (hint, hint) we are all looking forward to getting some sneak previews.
Now I have all the groceries put away I think I'll lay down and take a nap. Dream of Japanese serenity gardens...
And my lilacs are blooming! My favorite flower. Heavenly. I took a picture I'll post later. Right now, I need a nap.
Yay, Jill! I'm getting ready to finish my outline. 3 more chapters to go on SubZero.
Ken . . . intersting excerpt
Jill, on the other hand, has the right idea about lilacs. For scent, lilacs are probably one of my top three favorites (gardeniasn and tuberoses being the others). Can't wait for the lilacs to start blooming here.
To Beth and John, CONGRATULATIONS!! WhooHOOO! I can't wait to see what you've done! And JK, you too! Synopsis., if nothing else. And Jamie, you have days and days to go before the month ends!
Ken, as always, I love your quotes! And Wendy, Ken is right. Stygian is a wombat word. It's some kind of law that we all have to hide it somewhere in out MS. In order to circumvent the ongoing dispute over the capitalization of it, I intend to make it the first word in a sentence.
Opera was a blast. La Fille Du Regiment, French comic opera, and they really camped it up. Ginormous amounts of physical comedy. And of course, that lovely little aria on which Pavorotti made his name, with 9 high Cs in quick succession. The lead today, Juan Diego Flórez, did a quite credible job at it (what do I know? He sounded magnificent to me.) Got himself a standing O out of it.
OK, off for a nap. Back later.
So, Sy, what was your adventure today? Anyone else do something exciting? We know Pat had an opera day. That just sounds so satisfying--opera and dinner with your honey.
I did get a bathroom cleaned. And the slate beds around the house have been de-weeded. Adventures abound.
Not a very romantic adventure. Except for the French woman waiting for her car sitting next to me, who it turned out lives two blocks from me, and who, poor thing, had just separated from her husband, and who didnt have any money to release her car, which I loaned her in exchange for a phone number so she could pay me back.
Yes, I made that part up. But it could be a good start for a book right? Romance writers? A meeting at the NYC Tow pound? Go with it.
Those photos of the flowers. You took them? How? I mean, I feel like that kid who asked Einstein for help with his algebra homework.
Sorry about the tow, but at least you didn't lose your computer. Now that's fodder for a horror plot.
I'm very motivated at the moment. I'll check in when I need breaks.
I have houseguests - Wombat Dana and her boyfriend Dave. They are out at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound for their fundraiser/Twilight Tour, where Dana has volunteered for many years.
I just finished putting the steaks for tonight in the marinade - we are eating late, so they will have plenty of time to achieve nummy goodness - and we will see if I can duplicate my earlier Steak Nirvana...I'm pretty much doing the same meal, will stir-fry the onions in the marinade with some mushrooms and once again broil broccoli in the oven with a little salt, olive oil and lemon juice. We have some nice La Brea Bakery bread and yuppie olive oil for that. And a couple of bottles of good Cabernet.
I am about to head out to the gym so I have a little bit of a caloric deficit heading into this!
Congratulations to our Script Frenzy Winnahs, John and Beth!
Jamie, congratulations on finishing a round of edits on SUBZERO!
Uh...what else? Sorry about the tow, Sy!
Anyone I forgot, many apologies. I'm pretty behind on the threads these days...
I'm with you on the digital macro thing on the camera. My old one didn't have it. Simon, part of your problem is that you're using a camera phone. I can't make those work either. I've got a Canon PowerShot SD850 Digital Elph. Easiest thing in the world for basic shots, with some cool extras. But simple enough to just point and shoot. It even has some kind of shake control built in, which is great for me. 26 years of working on a keyboard has left me with a virutally unnoticable tremor in my right hand, that only showed up when taking photos. With this new camera, I never have to worry about it.
Lisa, do give us the recipe for your nummy steak marinade, and tell Dana we said hi! Have a great evening!
Simon, sorry about the tow, and even sorrier the French lady was not real. Wendy would have turned it into a contemporary romance. I'd have headed towards turning it into erotica. French maid costume optional. Big surprise.
So, I'm assuming you've learned to carry your flash drive (more than one!!) somewhere else? And do a backup on a reagular basis and store it someplace? (Our "offsite storage facility" is my office desk drawer).

Okay, copy that, because you are going to put it in twice.
Here's what my final script was before I posted it on that last flower picture. It is also adjusted for size.
*a href="http://media-files.gather.com/images/d136/d694/d744/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg">*img src="http://media-files.gather.com/images/d136/d694/d744/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg"width="307"height="230">
Hopefully that will post okay. You just need to replace both of those * with a <. Also you need to replace my http address with yours. Easy, huh? LOL!
I'm awful. Okay off to make dinner for my family.. nuthin as top notch as Lisa..it'll be nummy all the same.
Say hi to Dana for us..
Spring in bloom at last
Sorry, I never learned to be cool like Wendy and Dave and get stuff to open in a separate window.
How do you know they're consenting?
Jamie, are you turbo-charged? How can you possibly get done all that you do???
Sy, loved your story. Losing all your stuff? Oh my God, that would have been tragic.
Sia, found something of yours that I'd lost. Hope to get it back to you soon!
Jamie is right. You have to give it a caption or something to "trigger" the image.
Ok, I'm a friggin idiot when it comes to this stuff Jamie. Here's the script I'm taking from properties. Step by step.

so far so good. Now I type....
I've got the html on a word pad and paste in the new article.. makes me look smoother than I am.
Mike you dusted? The most romantic thing my husband did today was put his foot down on finding daycare for little bit. He backed me up! batting eyes.
Off with me for a tawdry night of watching The Tudors.. I've an entire season to catch up on.
Hi Joe! Glad to see you!
Sia, laughing with you. I recall a thread some time ago where we all tried to learn to put in images. The entire thread. It was hilarious, with lots of red X's. The very most simplest way is to use photobucket. Post your image, and they provide the html for you. Of course, they turn out huge, and I've no idea how to resize, but hey, it works.
