A Day Without Television?

It just occurred to me a few minutes ago that I have not watched any television (besides Nick Jr.) today! You know, I could really get used to this. What I'm sure hasn't changed since I went to bed last night:

John McCain is still the "presumptive" Republican nominee (what in the world? like anybody else is going to pop up and the Republicans will tell McCain, Oh, never mind we found somebody better!?)

Obama and Clinton are still the Democratic candidates and neither of them will have enough delegates to cinch the nomination before the convention.

Gas prices are still rising.

Food shortages continue to grow more dire in 3rd world countries as well as the U.S.

Global warming is still going on and nobody know how to stop it or cares enough to do so.

Pretty much everything else is status quo as well.

Incredibly, I have been awake 14 hours and 30 minutes and I didn't really miss much by not tuning in to find out what I would have missed had I actually watched the news:)

Yes it is! After dinner I'm going to watch a movie with my son, so I will hopefully be able to thwart my urge to tune in to CNN, just because I can:)

Carol, I'm so glad you let me know what our President shared with us! You know . . . I could just log on to Gather a little more often throughout the day, and I'd probably never have to watch television news again!

I go days at a time without watching TV. I have 2 nights a week that I watch my favorite prime time shows. That is it. Whatever I want to know I read online, through my various blog forums, my local newspaper. I find my outlook towards life is more optimistic, my stress is minimized and I love looking forward to each day. The off switch on the TV is a FREE ANTIDEPRESSANT-LOL. Coming from a previous #1 Sales Manager for Prozac.

No way could I live without television...not even for one day. (I'm sure I could. I wouldn't drop dead without it.) It's a part of my daily routine. I even made cure cable was installed and hooked up for when I moved into my new apartment. The first thing I do when I open my eyes is turn the TV on for the morning news. The last thjing I do at night is turn the TV off...unless I fall asleep with it on. I don't watch it continuously throughout the day. It usually goes off after the morning news and comes back on again for the nightly news. The rest of the evening, if I'm not watching it, it's at least on for background noise. Despite some of what's on; I love my television.

watching the news is so depressing..ugggh. I just check the news online. i usually have the TV on for background noise.. and I admit I do watch way too much. I have a very unhealthy level of involvement with my TV. I always thought I'd go insane if I didn't have TV, and I thought people were crazy if they didn't have cable and a zillion channels, but when I first moved to the house I live in now last August, I didn't have cable ..and no antenna ..so I couldn't get anything on my TV. I had NO Tv for 3 months..and I was fine with it. I hardly missed it at all. Of course, I did have DVDs to watch, but I didn't really miss the regular TV shows at all. It was nice. Now, if I didn't have the internet for 3 months, that would be entirely different. OMG!! I'd lose my mind for sure. LOL

I rarely watch TV during the day, but we're coming up on Survivor and the return of Gray's Anatomy tonight and I WILL be watching those :-)
I hardly watch TV myself. It turns on for my kids and my husband, but not really for me. But when I am watching something that I enjoy like Dexter or Lost you better not mess with me i will bite your head off if i am disturbed.

I like to either have the place totally quiet, or I will put on a mix of my favorite music. Some Classic Rock, some Latin, some Country, maybe some Classical or New Age... just a nice mix to make me feel good and to help me work on things...

I'm a TV junky but I do find myself lost in Gather world on some days. I'll get up, get on Gather, and not turn on TV until primetime if at all.

Good for you! When my son was a teen, we used to participate in "turn your TV off week" every year. We also tried not to watch videos, play video or computer games, etc. We read a lot in that week. And we talked.
