I have different take, please bear with me.
Since I turned 21* in 1970 I have never missed an election; federal, state or local. I consider voting a responsibility as well as a privilege.
Anytime I have become involved in an election, it has been as a Democrat**. I have never voted in a Republican primary. I have also never voted a straight ticket and currently consider myself an independent.
I am not avidly for or against Clinton, Obama or McCain.*** I think all of three of them have the potential of becoming an acceptable, perhaps even a good, president.
When Illinois voted, it was obvious that the Democratic contest was a shew-in for our favorite son, so I seriously considered casting my ballot with the GOP. I didn't for two reasons.
- First, George W and the current batch of Republicans have made such a mess of things that I would have had to wear a bag over my head.
- Second, and most important, McCain had already clenched the GOP nomination but the Democratic race was wide open. I wanted my vote to have meaning, so I cast it where it would count.
I suspect there are a lot of people out there, like me, who want to cast their ballot in an election where their vote can make a difference.
*18 year olds didn't get the vote till 1971
**As the old saying goes "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat"
***Since I don't have a dog in this fight, I am having a great time watching

I think that Rush Limbaugh is grabbing at straws. He doesn't know how to interpret the difference this time around. After all, he is pro-war, pro-corporation, and against anything the Democrats stand for. That leaves him out in the cold culturally.
I say that with the knowledge that Mitt Romney indicated that he voted in the Democratic primary for Michael Dukakis, just to be assured that the Democrats nominated the weakest link. I just do not believe that a substantial number of voters would sink to those levels.
"He's drug free."
Sadly, these idiots are still convincing people to dispense their disbelief and follow along like stupid, koolaid drinking sheep.
It is wonderful to have a voice of reason like yours. Although I am a democrat, I do admire you independents. BTW, you are featured in the Gather Essentials News group.
