Different ways of describing oneself are possible, believe it or not. We can describe ourselves based on our outward appearance (e.g., "I'm a 5'2" female with brown hair and eyes" etc.). We can also describe ourselves based on our associations (e.g., "I am a pharmacist", "I am a mother", etc).
Descriptions can also be based on ethnic association, such as: "I am German." Then again, there are descriptions based on age: "I'm an old man"(actually, I'm not -- but, I digress), etc. Descriptions can be based on our particular interests that define our personality in some way - for example, "I am a nature-nut."
Our placement ("pecking order") in a group can also be effectively used to describe ourselves. For example, "I am the President of the PTA."
There are countless ways to describe oneself. And who we are talking to in a conversation often helps to determine exactly how we choose to describe ourselves to someone else when we shake hands and introduce ourselves to them.
The self is many things in one person - and we can describe ourselves in terms of each of those things. We literally have 101 different ways of describing who we are. What words or associations do YOU use to describe yourself? Let me begin ... I am a VEGETARIAN ... YOUR TURN!
