What Are You Doing For Earth Day?

When is it?

avoiding the allergies (lol) I cleaned my house with the usual vinegar and baking soda...Oh yeah I know, my husband bought us a water filter so no more packing gallon jugs and bottles in...that will be tons less plastic going in the dumpster!

I'm going down to Big Sur for the morning. Coincidentally, I'm selling local, organic veggies at the farmers market tonight All fun stuff!

Hmmm I don't know. But I hope you get some flowers in. Maybe I'll RE-plant my basil - the first time they came up but then died because it was so grey outside.

I try to live EVERY day as green as I can stand. ( no fresh veggies for me, only out of the can )

BUT today I am helping to sort thru our town's monthly free large item pick up service, and sort out items that should/could be recycled or donated instead of landfilled.

OTHERWISE our towns budget only covers for the maintenance man to haul and dump it all .

Also tomorrow I take my son to our local fishing spot to clean up trash along the banks.

About 6 weeks ago we did this and filled 4 trash bags with cans,clothes, toys, oil filters, plastic baggies and even two tires. ( in only a 1/4 mile stretch of ONE bank )

I wish that my truck got better mileage and that I had the time, money and knowledge to be MORE green, but I do what I can .

Does anyone know if you replace a light bulb with a flourescent bulb BUT also go up in watts if the " greeness " is still there ? ? I have found that if I stay with the same wattage of flour. as traditional bulbs its just NOT bright enough, regardless of their " this watt - that watt " rating.

Is it Earth Day? Somehow I thought it was always May 1st. :P

Not sure. We have some seeds the kids and I can plant.

I ordered some 100% recycled paper from Office Depot for my company that I work for.

Also, I try to live green everyday as well. Turned off all the computers this morning so they are not drawing any electricity - ok, unplugged them.
Drove our fuel efficient car to work (car-pooled with hubby) - Chevy Aveo (35 mpg)

Last year I switched over to all compact flourescent bulbs in the house. I think this year I'll get sun reflecting shades for some of our windows that let a lot of heat in during the summer.

I picked up trash as I cached on Sunday and Yesterday.

I'm actually not doing anything different than I do other days. I know it's sad that I'm not "celebrating" but I'm pretty busy today and I'm generally "green" as much as possible anyway.

Nothing.

Nope, not May 1st. Today is Earth day! Yay!

We live pretty green mostays ourselves. We've used green cleaners for almost four years now.

I will follow you lead and plant something fun I think, then I'll water the garden with my grey water!

We're heading for Disney - (I'll check to see how green they REALLY are)...one hears rumors.

I took two beautiful walks around the city of Albany on breaks from work. That was about all I could manage on this earth day. Hopefully I will be setting up a new tent when I get home to try it out!

I also take a bus to work every day, so I am celebrating the earth every day. The bus company handed out free passes today which are made of paper infused with wildflower seeds that can be planted once used! So I will be planting my ticket when I get home.

Well, now that I know it is Earth day, I will clean my kitchen with earth-friendly cleansers, and I will take your children outside to play in the dirt when they get here. Maybe we'll take a little nature walk, but they usually just want to play in the dirt. They will be celebrating dirt day.

I feel like I have gotten so far at living green, and I am not really doing anything particularly green today. I did watch Oprah's green program, and it was actually rather funny. I will go water my plants, herbs and veggies outside very soon.

Last weekend we cleaned up a local monument park. Had to work today.

We stayed home today.. My daughter and her school done neat thinkgs. picked up trash.. planted a tree..

Good question. I just ran a lot of errands but I did come across an interesting poem at the library about Earth Day. It made me stop and think for a moment.
