Cooking with my kids.

When I was little my mother would make this wonderful chocolate cake, apple pies and cookies too.  She always made it in this one special bowl (creme with tiny specks of different colors) and anytime she would make anything she would always let us kids like the stuff off the blenders or spoon.  Sometimes she would even let us lick the bowl clean.  I loved when we got to do this. 

Today I have that special bowl at my house and I use it to cook in for my kids.  I use a blender too and always let me kids lick the special goo off the mixers.  My older son loves when I make chocolate chip cookies.  He loves the cookie dough and begs to eat it.  I always allow it because I remember my mother always sharing too.  I try to get him to help me make things too.  One year for Christmas we made cookies for Santa.  I got out cookie cutters and sprinkles and we went to town.








For Father's Day we made my husband a cake with all kinds of interesting sprinkles on it.  I just let me son decorate it anyway he wanted.  That was fun.

We love to cook together.  It's always a great experience and one I hope my kids remember even when they get older.  I will always remember the times my mom made all the special things she did and I hope to leave that legacy to my kids.





I will even leave the special bowl of them too when I'm gone.

that is really great. I always liked having some one in the kitchen with me.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun in that kitchen and I love that bowl. That is such a special bowl to our family.

This brings back memories. I had a set of metal pans and mixing bowls much smaller than my Mother's. She made cakes from scratch, and there was always enough left over to fill my small cake pans. Those were magic times for me. Thanks for the memories.

I remember my son pulling up a kiddie chair by the oven door so he could watch the cake rise.:)
Then there was the time we decided to bake Christmas cookies at the spur of the moment - all of a sudden I had four boys in my tiny kitchen - going to town with all the sprinkles and colors and decorations to decorate the cookies with. He still remembers that almost thirty years later:)

Audrey helped me make peanut butter cookies yesterday - being only 2 her job was to dump the flour and run and hide when the mixer was turned on.

My boys love to help bake. They are always wantting to make something specials. Cookies, cake, cupcakes, whatever. I also let mine lick the bowl and mixer blades just like I did as a child. My boys also love to eat up all the cookie mix too.

They love to do cookie cutters as well. I leave that one upto grandma. She loves doing it with them and they loving helpping her. I have some pictures from a few times that they did it, that I have been wantting to put a photo essay together, just have not had the time or been able to sit at the PC long enough to do it.

Loved your essay and pictures. My mom made a recipe book for me as a gift (I am now 32) and it is a treasure. You are clearly an amazing mom!

It is fun to cook with the kids! I have a 5 yr old who loves to help when im baking, however it gets kinda scary when you have too many things going on at once and they want to help, but all in all its a great memory making experience.
