In the follow-up to Lucifer: Autobiography of a Prince...and Stuff (Trafford Publishing, 2006), the life of Satan's twenty-something, sensitive, half-human, half-devil of a son becomes the focus of the Prince of Darkness. As Uriah: Earth...Second Time opens, Lucifer is in negotiations with God for the future of his son Uriah, who yielded to temptation and kissed the woman he fell in love with while living on Earth, causing her death. With the assistance of friend and brother Jesus (after all, God did create them both), the woman, Andrea, is resurrected, her memory of their love erased. Uriah is returned to earth with the same stipulations limiting his ability to live the normal life he desires. With the supporting cast showcased in the first installment (Jesus and angels Michael and Abigail), Lucifer takes the reader on a journey through the joys and tribulations that impact his ambitious son's life.
Upon returning to earth, Uriah travels extensively throughout the world before finally settling again in Lakeview, California where he'd been adopted by an older couple as a teenager. This was also the place where he fell in love with Andrea. One of his first stops is an animal shelter in search of a canine friend to settle in with. There he meets Lucinda, a single woman in her 30's who quickly becomes enchanted with the lonely Uriah and opens her heart and home to him. Under the watchful eye of his father, stepmother Abigail and Uncles Jesus and Michael, Uriah wrestles with his desires and limitations. He wants to be with Andrea who shows up in his life again, but being half devil means that a simple kiss to her lips will kill her; also, his inability to age could cause a problem, then there is the issue of Satan being his father. Eventually, Uriah reveals his true self to Lucinda and Andrea and makes a request from God that changes the course of his life forever.
As in his autobiography, Lucifer is vocal, feisty and not short on four-letter words. And yes, he still hates being called "Lucy," but he can't seem to stop his loved ones from throwing it around-often. Although Uriah's conflict is complicated and causes all who know him to suffer for him, solutions are found and a full life is ultimately pulled together that includes love, family, and tantalizing bits of humor throughout. Additionally, the author delves deeper into the purpose of life and God's ultimate plan. Lucifer continues his job of placing temptation in the paths of humans, all the while wishing that God's subjects would choose what is right. God also becomes very involved in his grandson Uriah's life, and discovers joys in his creation that he has not partaken of in the past because he kept himself tucked away in Heaven.
Uriah: Earth...Second Time requires a commitment as it is nearly twice as long as its 370 page predecessor; however, the messages of love and accountability that come through and around the lengthy banter of the characters and Lucifer's ranting tangents makes it time well spent.
