Yesterday I had a bunch of things to do. First I went to my best friend's house and we spent a long time doing timed writing prompts together. It was so much fun and she is having some great revelations about a story she's writing! I, however, am finding myself "stuck" in some unpleasant places, so I have two options as I see it: Get over myself - the least likely to happen; Do what I need to do anyway-thanks to my husband, my best friend, and God - this is what I've decided to opt for:)
Anyway, because we had changed the time we were to meet I didn't do as much advance planning as I usually do in terms of grocery shopping. I had my coupons with me but not my cloth bags and I didn't realize it until I got to Kroger. With the high price of gas I decided I would not go home, but determined I also would not have by groceries packed up in plastic either. Then I remembered I had a coupon for 99 cents off four of the Kroger cloth grocery bags. I decided I'd use that, plus get 5cents credit for each cloth bag and then put two of the bags in each or our cars. That way if we made a last minute stop on the way home from work we would always have bags with us.
By using my coupons and matching them with some sale items I did end up 1 free Mustard and 2 free Yoplait yogurts! I also received some great coupons on organic items in my Kroger mailer this week, so I picked up some organic eggs at a decent price as well. Altogether I saved 26% on my purchase yesterday (Kroger calculates your total savings and then gives you a percentage) I wasn't that pleased as I usually aim for at least 30% but I did buy some store brand sodas since we're having company this weekend and we were really low on some "snack" items my husband likes for his lunch. I did only buy snack items that I had coupons for, but that also pushes up the grocery bill a bit. Anyway, our church receives a percentage of the total purchase price when you pay with a reloadable "gift card" so they received a few extra cents on us this month.
Then I got the shock of my life! After shopping I had earned enough to pay the 10 cents cheaper price for gas at Kroger. (Spend at least $100 in a month) Well, it's a good thing I spent so much on groceries!!! It cost me $36+ dollars to fill up my car!!!!! I was in absolute shock! I drive a Saturn Ion - not an SUV, for heaven sakes!!!
So . . . we won't be going to the Chili Cookoff today as it costs $25/person! We also will be redoubling our cost-cutting and frugal living efforts! At this rate we'll be lucky to keep the lights on!!!!!

I sit down with the sale adds on Thursday night (here in Indianapolis) with the grocery adds. Having invertoried my freezer, frig, and big freezer I can now decide what to make. for next week's meals. Sometimes by doing this I may not need much from the store but what I do need for the most part is on sale. If I'm lucky. I may even have a coupon or two also. After my menu for the next week is made I make out my grocery list. They are truly smaller when doing it this way.
