Gather takes elegance away, we bring it back - WITH BLACK

I'm wearing a black jacket for the occasion.  It is so gloomy in Minneapolis now that the whole skies of the city seem to have joined in the protest of Hawthorn.   Some folks have gone all black, but I still wanted to show my face - you all know what an utter persistent attention whore I am but that's the earthly fate of a fabulous novelist.  For those of you who want to go black in mourning and protest, and you don't have a digital camera or photoshop to show you're dressed in black  - just STEAL an all black icon from somebody else.  How are they going to know?  ha ha.

 

Do it now and help bring some visual elegance back to Gather.

The new upgrade is so trashy looking. And it was elegant before - that's the essence of the problem right there. I'm going to be looking for a new icon when I get home from work.

I don't mind the new upgrade, and if I change my icon it will have more colors in it. All black is depressing and boring,and when I look for new gatherers to connect to, I don't look at names on comments. I do, but my deciding factor to go to a person's page is their icon. If it interests me, then I see their other works and more than likely connect. Black is devoid of the personality that I so look forward to seeing in other people.

I couldn't bring myself to render my usual icon, Mr. Kittenpuss, in monochrome - he's just not himself if he's not yellow (or orange, or yellowy-orange). Instead I have adopted a new icon that I hope will continue to convey my support, albeit in living color.

Boo the grey cat went to black, she felt lost when she was not gadding about on gather as my icon. As we continue to mourn the loss of gather she may need to go on hiatus again.

Peter, I followed yours and Lune's example and didn't blank the whole thing. Although I went and shot a whole new picture (of COURSE I shot it in b&w!) instead of converting an already existing one. I have lots of black clothing around. But as good as we ALL look in black, I'd really like Gather to do something and I'll happily go back to color.

I didn't notice you without the Burger King hat. I thought you had an icon of Johnny Cash. I am dismayed by this downgrade.

Folks, please go look at the Alexa.com's ratings for the last week to see how usage has gone down here since the upgrade. I want to note that this info comes from a wonderful article here called Hawthorne Redux by Chris Carlisle. There is a link in that article to Alexa and other info about how much Gather has been seen or used before and after the upgrade.

No matter WHY someone uses Gather - for promotion, chat, games, whatever- I think we all might find the information enlightening. I care if people stop by this site. I care if it grows. I think there is a problem and we are not being heard about that and our input is not being addressed - yet.

I still hope it will be. By the way, I note this respectfully and with respect for other viewpoints. I ask that be taken into consideration when people reply.
