Weirdest Gather Glitch Ever

Ok, this is the weirdest glitch that I've ever gone through on Gather. When I go to the My Gather page, it shows me someone else. Apparently I'm not me anymore and I've become a man... I know...it was a surprise to me too. When I go to the My Gather page, it shows me a different Gather member. This is what I see:

Hi, Paul Allen
my profile Paul Allen - update status Paul Allen save status Enter your status (i.e. "is happy")Gather PointsTM: 3,170

and at the top of that page is his gather address in the top corner. When I click on a link though, it changes back to my Gather name in the corner but it will not pull up my gather info at all. I'm not even connected to this Gather member. When I click on the mail, it brings me to my Gather mail box. I just think this is so strange.

 

Anyone else having this problem? I'm going to sign out and sign back in to see if it will show up with my information.

I just went and signed out and signed back in and it's still showing up as him. If it's still like that in the morning, I'll be popping off an email to Gather.

Ok, I closed the browser and opened it up a new one and I seem to be me again. But isn't that strange? I was just going to check my page real quick and go to bed when I saw that I was someone else. We're not connected and I don't think I've ever commented on anything of his before. The only thing we have in common is that we live in California. Eh well, I guess a weird Gather glitch was bound to happen to be someday.

Shannon, Are you absolutely certain you really know who you are? After all, Gather has many busy beavers upgrading and maintaining this site 24/7, and surely they know who you are. Maybe if you take 2 aspirin and check again in the morning, you will be who you think you are.

That is very strange for sure. I have just posted yet another article about the glitch I have been dealing with. I posted one last night and was pretty much told I didnt know how to use to new gather. SO tonight I took screen shots to prove what is happening to me.

Im happy to know that you are back to being you. Hopefully you stay that way.

Gather gremlins at it again?
They sneak into your house at night and change your sex and name and take pictures of weird things and publish them as someone else.
They are real, I have seen them!

This is actually a new feature that is being rolled out on a random basis. Since many members have complained about their feeds, Gather is allowing members to rotate identities in the hope that you'll be happier with the feeds of someone else.

I think they're on the right track...

On a serious note though, this has happened before a long time ago and began affecting many members.

I would recommend that you forward this information to Gather (support@gather.com) as you may help to prevent an outbreak of this problem on the site. :-)

I just want to share with you what I know about this problem ("identity crisis," as some have joked). Occasionally, you may log in and find yourself viewing some other member's "My Gather" page. Rest assured that if this happens, you have not actually logged in as the wrong member, nor can you perform any activities (post comments, send messages) under the guise of that member. Our developers have attributed this effect to a caching problem with AOL. This effect seems to be exclusive to our AOL users.

Nevertheless, we are attempting to collect more information about this from affected members when it occurs. Hopefully with enough information we will be able to notice some pattern for what is triggering this effect with our AOL members. If this happens to you, or if you have any further questions, please let us know by shooting an email to support@gather.com. Thank you!

How weird that it's with AOL. I use AOL for Gather sometimes (when it happened last night) and IE different times. Thanks for clearing it up Chuck.

I just had a problem where is says that one of my connections posted an article, yet there is no title or link. I went to their page and there are no articles!

I's say that's pretty freaking weird. But it wouldn't be the first time. Somebody, I'll leave anonymous stold my identity on purpose, and Gather did little to do anything about it. Friends encourage friends to use anything else than AOL whenever possible. May the blessings of a thousand flow to you -- you're gonna need them to _keep_ AOL working.

I have never had that problem..Thankfully I don't have AOL. But I have been laughing from all the comments being made. I will have to say this is probably the funniest article I found today. The article its self but the comments made from other members. Thank you all.

Thankfully I don't pay for AOL (I have dsl through AT&T) but I kept my email addresses so I use it sometimes for Gather. It hasn't happened again and I hope it stays that way. :D

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. It is apparently a Gather/AOL thing. Chuck told me to let him know the next time it happens. It freaked me out by the way too!
