I was surprised that George Stephanopoulos, a member of the Clinton Administration, was one of the questioners.
Both candidates said they would not raise taxes on families making less than $200,000 a year. I would love to see the details. If the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire in 2010 it will clearly impact people making a lot less than $200,000.
I am sure all Israelis were relieved to hear that would that Clinton and Obama would respond if Iran annihilated their country with nuclear weapons.
Three days ago Arianna Huffington had a post arguing that Mc Cain should go on vacation because Senator Clinton was doing his work for him. (POST HERE) It certainly seemed the case last night that Stephanopoulos et al. were doing the same. Prior to last night's debate, I had never heard of Bill Ayers and I suspect, outside of the ditto heads and Fox News junkies, no one else had either.
At one point Charles Gibson apologized to Senator Clinton that much of the time, up to that point, had gone to Senator Obama. Her reply was "I've noticed". This reminded me of an earlier debate where she had complained that Obama was being allowed to answer questions first* and of complaints from some of her supporters that the press supported Obama. This reminded me of her remarks several years ago about a "vast right wing conspiracy" that was out to get Bill Clinton. I couldn't help but think of Richard Nixon and wonder if Senator Clinton has an enemies list.
*I stand corrected. Her complaint was that she was questioned first.

This debate certainly gave some good soundbites. Let's see if they are promises kept.
A few interesting articles on this.

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON: Well, can I just point out that, in the last several debates, I seem to get the first question all the time. And I don't mind. You know, I'll be happy to field them, but I do find it curious. And if anybody saw Saturday Night Live, you know, maybe we should ask Barack if he's comfortable and needs another pillow. I just find it kind of curious that I keep getting the first question on all of these issues. But I'm happy to answer it.
Last night the rolls were reverse at bit. Pillows anyone?
Does it seem to you that Stephanopolous was the model for the Michael J. Fox character in Spin City?
Anyways, debate was the worse ever. If they going to debate who you knew that was a radical in the 60s, what will happen about the issues?
I stand corrected.
Buy my premise still stands.
They should ask her about letting a (alleged) rapist of a 12 year old walk.
They should ask her about sitting on a board (WalMart) that is accused of mistreating women and unions, calling unions "blood sucking ..." on tape while she was serving on the board, since now she is pro union and seeks their endorsements.
Not saying any of this is true but they are asking questions right. She keeps saying people know about all this, not true. Her Black Panther connection has been ignored. Let's ask the questions. When she is done with that, we can start with the library donors, the 15 million dollars from Dubbai, and Alibaba.com which collaborate with the Chinese to persecute the Tibetans.
Im not even done
Where do I sign up?
You must be joking about the Mideast $ involvement. Good grief they have substantial investments all over our country, the list would be too long--you have nothing here.
That's what the Clintons are doing. And that's what any claim on Clinton and Black Panther does. Make her say it's not true. When she does, only then, will some (not so bright) believe it.
MidEast money and all that. Let them deny it, prove it's all clean. Bring the charges, it's their job to deny just like it is Obama's to show that his relationship with people who did bad things when he was 8 years old, does not affect his views.
I don't put weight in any of this stuff. All I am saying is you want to bring baseless charges, do it on both sides.
Dick Morris, have not read him lately. All I know is he is an important assets to the GOP because he was very very close to the Clintons. He's got a lot of materials he is sitting on, just in case she wins.
I think of this when I think of Barak Obama.
On the subject of Arab money, the Arabs rule the world right now because Americans just can't get off the oil addiction. I would be surprised to find an area where they haven't invested money--I don't think there is anything really there that would be shocking to Americans given the Arabs economic clout.
It would appear so, with most of them coming from her husband's administration.
What change? Hope for what?
Just more empty rhetoric.
I hope the change will be hopeful, because if we don't have change, how can we have hope? The only hope for change, will be when we hope for the change that will change our hope. So my friends, while you're hoping for the change that will change your hope don't forget the changed hope you had before your hope changed.
Thank you and God Bless America.
This is because the debates used to be sponsored by a non-partisan group, the League of Women Voters. They used to do a great job, and at least ask relevant questions. Now the debates are part of the media. This is nauseating ... and every debate has been like this ... a media non-event.
We drastically need the fairness doctrine back in place, and some power shifted to the people, as well as responsiblity.
It is time to start to balance the budget and put some progressive taxes back in place to nip this royal class we seem to be creating in the bud and start to build Americans again instead of just monopolizing the products of the people who live in the US for maximum global profit.
