I talked with an IRS agent in the stimulus q&a department today who tells me she's been receiving a lot of calls from people who are actually eligible for the check but who were told by their tax software that they weren't eligible. I'm curious to know if mistakes are happening the other way around as well, with people being told they're getting a stimulus check when indeed they're not. So Lisa B., will you let us know how it goes?

I didn't work last year at all so I am not eligible for it. Didn't file taxes since I didn't have income. But I think that is fine. I am just not sure how it will help to turn around this recession.

I'm with you there Wanda P. Note that you could be eligible for the stimulus check if you don't work but do make at least $3,000 in income from non-taxable sources like social security and pension payouts.

Congrats on getting your taxes done early enough for that Lora. If you used tax preparation software, did the IRS calculator turn up the same results as your tax software?

Thanks for sharing this link. I knew there were some income limits and such and I wasn't clear whether or not I would qualify for a rebate. Now that I can plug in some numbers I'll be able to find out, one way or the other, for sure. I'm assuming I don't qualify. That way, if I do, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for the link. I have go dig my paperwork out since I did my taxes like 2 months ago. My software gave me number as well but the common consensus is that the softwares don't have a clue what they're on about so I had better check.

I think the IRS has sped things up this year; the refund seemed to come so quickly I was shocked. Normally there'd be a several month wait. This year it was only a couple of weeks. Dare I say our government servants are doing a good job?

Christine, I recieved my state refund in about a week. If federal is even close to that, that's amazing turn around time this year for sure!

Jihaan, I talked to the IRS stimulus check hotline and the operator there confirmed what you said: many of "the softwares don't have a clue."

Thanks for linking this in a comment today, Ms. Meacham. I'd seen the article when you posted it, but mentally filed an intent to come back and use calculator, and promptly forgot. Went through it today and like what it's telling us. We used direct deposit so we'll know for sure in about a week.
