Once again George W. Bush is mouthing off about global warming. In the Rose Garden today, he is going to explain how we need to do something about it. However, he is going to add to that declaration by explaining what we should NOT do about it. We should not have mandatory objectives. That would be bad, because we would be demanding cooperation from the American People to deal with a crisis. No, what we should do is BEG, CAJOLE, and HOPE, as we have been doing for his entire term.
Has that begging, cajoling, and hoping actually gotten any results? Well no, it has not. Then why would we expect MORE begging, cajoling, and hoping to actually get results? Well, no reason, actually.
the only success we have expereinced during the Bush Administration regarding climate change and greenhouse gases is the recent tiny reduction in the amount of gasoline used by american drivers. And that is very much against George W. Bush's wishes, because the root cause of that is the fact that we are in a recession.
Speaking of the recession, we are sure to hear George say that you do not "impose hardship in hard times" or something to that effect. As if stewardship of the environment always results in poverty- of course it does not, but that is a topic for another thread. Look George, you did nothing to fight climate change when times were good, so do not use that argument. Here are your good buddies John McCain and Joe Lieberman with their cap and trade legislation, the bare minimum of what we need to be doing, and John McCain is your party's next candidate for the White House- but it's all too much for you and you run away from it.
In "The Empire Strikes Back", Luke Skywalker and Yoda have a little chat. Luke says "I tried". Yoda replies "Do, or do not. There is no try." That, my friends, will be history's epitaph for the George W. Bush administration's record on combatting climate change.

Maybe Bush should just raise the price of fuel to $100/gallon and freeze it there. I bet that would shrink our carbon footprint.
Current day, huh. Today's current day is tomorrow's dry history. Tomorrow's distant shore will be the here and now of our grandkids. I love this attitude of thinking that tomorrow will take care of itself. That is the attitude that convinced millions of ninnies and shysters to create the mortgage crisis.
Of course we could simply shoot our children. That way we would no longer need to worry about climate change because the problem would then belong to the Chimpanzees.
I would prefer for us all to wait another 9 months until we have a new president. All three of the remaining candidates would be willing to sign something far more meaningful than what George would sign. he is just trying to cut a good deal for Exxon while he still is in there.
Wow George, daring target. You are a visionary with that bold proposal. Our greenhouse gas emissions stop going UP 17 years after you leave office.
Shheeeesh.
