There have been a flurry of new films coming out on DVD-- and this includes Oscar winning and Oscar nominated films. What's really interesting is the timing of several films being released at one time-- 3 Oscar nominated films (* 2 are winners in different categories) that are very dark in tone, theme and the acting - both in the key performers and the cast -- is totally superb! No Country for Old Men was a stunning ensemble film that was entirely dark based on the book by Cormac McCarthy.
It's about a serial killer played by Javier Bardem who won for Best Supporting Actor. I won't give away the plot because it's key other than the cast includes Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson and Kelly Macdonald.
It's a distinctly dark movie about cat and mouse, life and death at the toss of a coin and mercy is a word that is never heard. It's not a speedy movie-- but it sustains the tension throughout- enough to drain the life from you.
Definitely not for the faint of heart or those who want a "fun" movie, it's a great one for serious thriller fans. The trailer for the movie is on my personal blog-- and it's very interesting. In case you want to check it out, please click here!!

I loved the movie. I've never seen anything by the Coens I didn't like.
that qualifies as a serial killer because he keeps on killilng. it's a means to an end-- for him he does have that goal-- but because it is a goal ( and it's not just the thrill).. it doesn't mean he's *not* a serial killer.
but .. that's the beauty of the comments.. we can agree to disagree. And we see the character differently. I can't watch it without shuddering.
I love Cormac McCarthy, but this movie left me very disappointed. It was boring at best, and the characters fell flat on the screen...the book was better.
