Comment Ignition: Comment Stimulus Edition! (The Contest is Over!)

Welcome, members of Comment Speedway, to our second contest, the Comment Stimulus Edition of Comment Ignition!

As you probably know by now, all articles, images, and videos are welcome here at Comment Speedway (as long as they don't violate Gather's Terms of Service); we help them receive ten comments and then remove them from the group to make room for others! (Time-sensitive articles may be removed at the group owner's option one month after their time passes.) Articles that do not allow comments will also be removed.

Each week, Comment Ignition selects some of our unsung articles, images, and/or videos that have received three comments or less and thus need an extra kick into the spotlight. Content may be unviewable if you have Guarded Viewing on, as we accept all content here.

However, in our Contest Editions, we add an additional twist -- this edition of Comment Ignition will last from 12:01 AM, April 16th, to 11:59 PM, April 30th. In short, you have two weeks to participate in this Comment Ignition!

The rules for this contest are simple; visit the articles, images, and videos featured in this contest article, and leave comments and ratings as you see fit. You receive contest points (tracked on our scoreboard) for being one of the first ten comments on a piece of content, when the content reaches at least ten comments. (For a more detailed explanation of the rules, check out our official Contest Rules article!)

So why participate? Well, aside from the usual incentives for participating on Gather, Comment Speedway is offering prizes for the top five participants (as determined by points scored on the scoreboard), as well as a prize for one random, lucky participant! First Prize is a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate, Second Prize is a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate, and Third, Fourth, Fifth, and the Lucky Prize are each $10 Amazon.com gift certificates!

Content is moved to the Scoreboard article when it reaches ten comments, and participation will be scored as time permits. Let me know if anything on this list requires comment approval or otherwise cannot be commented on, and I'll replace it. Let me know if a piece of content or range of content reaches ten comments (or more) and I'll move it to the Scoreboard and add a new piece of content to the featured list as soon as possible!

Alright, I've gone through the articles, images, and videos, and cleared them out for the evening; and now I'm heading to bed. So far, the members of Comment Speedway have cleared 1,211 articles, 1,007 images, and 305 videos - over 2,500 pieces of content.

I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it -- I'm just the guy who organizes these little activities, whereas you are the people who make Comment Speedway awesome. Thank you all for being great people, and I'll see you tomorrow.

If you comment on the content featured in this article, and you're one of the first ten comments on that content, you earn contest points. The people with the top five total contest points after all content is scored, as well as one lucky random participant, win prizes. The full Contest Rules are available here.

Contest points are tracked on the Scoreboard, and are tracked as I score things -- which means there's going to be a delay between when you make your comments and when you appear on the scoreboard. For best results, just try to comment on as much as you can!

I'm going to be announcing the winners one week after the contest ends (so that I have time to total up all those points first!)

Now I'm off to clear images and videos -- since I kinda missed a good part of today, I was also considering extending the contest for one extra day to make up for the lost time. What do you folks think?

This has been a great way to stimulate conversation and activity all over the site, Austin. I know there's nay-sayers anywhere we go here, but this is just a great thing all around, I think. I know my cash total has increased and I've seen articles posted by people we've been visiting who are also reporting positive changes to readership, connections and points.

I've been slacking for the past 2 days because I've had some of my own nay-sayer drama & I think I just plain wore myself out. BUT I've received about 20 new connection requests and personal 'thank you' emails, so it's totally worth it.

If any of you will be around this evening at 8pm EST, good 'ol Sherry who's been here commenting like a storm is having a virtual baby shower! Everyone is welcome and of course no gifts are required - just bring your typing fingers and some smiling faces. Between your contest and me trying to reach 3000 this month, while working full time plus overtime, it has been crazy! If my calculations are correct I got just over the 3000 points. Now maybe I can go do some of those things i have neglected...like cleaning the house and sleeping, lol.

I little constructive criticism on commenters...when you comment at least read the article. I got several comments on my articles where the commenter obviously had no clue as to what the article was about...and to be honest really made it quite awkward.
