I always suspected those people in Pilobilus were up to no good! Very clever satire. I don't think they ever found the 16-year-old girl who made the accusation on the polygamous "sect," and the guy who was supposed to be her husband, clearly wasn't! It's a pretty goofy situation all the way around. But at least THESE guys are teaching something useful -- to help young people in their future careers in the circus! Thanks for posting this and I hope everything turns out ok. Just don't invade that balloon animal cult!!

I have nothing against polygamy if it is voluntary. I somehow suspect that the young women in this case were not there by choice.

I'm with you, Larry. I don't have a problem with polygamy as long as it only involves those who are of legal age to conscent.

I heard this morning that TX is trying to assume parental rights for all the children. While I don't agree with how they were being raised, personally, I am concerned about what this may mean for state control in other cases.

For a very detailed picture of what life in a polygamous household is like--from the perspective of a woman who lived it and left (and therefore has no interest in joining the much-publicized united front we have all heard so much about in recent days), go read Escape by Karen Jessop.

Frankly, the emotional flatness of these women alarms me. The unblinking stares and high-pitched little-girl voices assuring the media that "I love my children" make my skin crawl...Susan Smith made my skin crawl, too, before they found out she actually killed her children--when she 'cried' during an interview, she constantly blinked but shed no tears. Sure sign of lying. What I see with these women is an abnormal degree of emotional control in a situation where normal response would be to shed tears, at least--instead, they come across as wide-eyed three year olds trying to deny the cookie crumbs. Sure sign of serious domestic abuse.

Please don't return those children to those families--and get those women some help!

I'm with Linda. It is hard to believe people think it was acceptable, for supposedly four years before the law moved in on the child abusers and those who chose to L@@K the other WAY. Not God fearing in my eyes! May the Lord heal those children in this aftermath!

Teach your children any religious superstition you please until it involves physical or sexual abuse - and that includes sex with children.

from what i read, these were not minors & no one was being forced into it. so why is the state getting involved?
