As much as I have loved all of Neil Gaiman's previous work, Fragile Things was a boring waste of time. It's a collection of short stories and poetry, plus one novella, but hardly any of it was very good. Out of over two dozen stories, I only like maybe 3 of them, and I didn't even like them that much. They were just better by comparison.
Some of the stories here won awards in years past, but I wonder if it was more than Gaiman himself won the award, as opposed to the story. Some of the writing is pretty good, but as a whole each story was weak. Many of them seem incomplete or go nowhere. At least the book ends on a fairly strong note with a novella based on his bestselling novel, American Gods.

His first collection of short stories, Smoke and Mirrors, is very good.
