Hello, Gatherites! The following are the basic rules for our currently running contest, Comment Stimulus, running from April 16th at 12:01 AM, to April 30th at 11:59 PM. Check them out, and then go check out our contest and start participating!
The Rules:
1) Content selected to be featured as part of this contest must be posted to Comment Speedway, and must allow comments without requiring approval.
2) Content selected to be featured must have three comments or less when chosen to be featured, unless all other content available has more than three comments, in which case content will be featured in order from oldest to newest.
3) Content selected to be featured must be a minimum of one month old, unless all other content available has been featured and cleared (as per rule 2).
4) During the first week of the contest, 120 pieces of content (50 articles, 50 images, and 20 videos) will be featured at any given time (via posting of links in the primary contest article). During the second week of the contest, 240 pieces of content (100 articles, 100 images, and 40 videos) will be featured at any given time.
5) A separate article will be maintained as a 'scoreboard', so that participants may check their scores without having to refresh the contest article. This page (as well as the contest page) will include a timestamp in the title so that participants may easily track when the article was last updated. This article will also contain links to content that has been removed from the contest (due to receiving ten comments or more), but has not yet had its scores counted and added to the scoreboard. 6) All participants in this contest must be members of Comment Speedway. While anyone can leave comments, prizes will only be awarded to members of Comment Speedway.
7) Participation in this contest is done by commenting on the content featured within the contest article, during the time period established for the contest. Comments left before or after the contest are not considered eligible for credit. (Community moderators -- that is, Austin Cushing and Krissy W. -- are not eligible for points in this contest.)
8) Participants receive a maximum of one credit per piece of content for leaving a comment on a contest-featured article, image, or video; they do not get multiple credits for leaving multiple comments on a single contest-featured piece of content. Participants receive credit only if their comment is within the first ten comments posted to the article, and only if they are neither the owner of the content or an organizer of the contest, and only if the piece of content in question reaches ten comments before the end of the contest.
9) The contest organizer (Austin Cushing) will regularly update the contest article and scoreboard as frequently as time allows, which will include tallying scores, removing content, and counting points.
10) To indicate that an article, image, or video has been officially scored as part of the contest, a special comment will be left on each article denoting its 'tallied' status. These comments will look like this:
This comment is to let you know that this content has reached ten comments, and as such has been removed from Comment Speedway and the Comment Ignition Comment Stimulus Edition! Contest participants within the first ten comments have been credited! Congratulations!
Prizes. The following prizes are being provided for this contest:
First Prize. $50 Amazon.com gift certificate
Second Prize. $25 Amazon.com gift certificate
Third Prize. $10 Amazon.com gift certificate
Fourth Prize. $10 Amazon.com gift certificate
Fifth Prize. $10 Amazon.com gift certificate
Lucky Prize: $10 Amazon.com gift certificate
Prizes will be awarded according to final rankings on the scoreboard at the end of the contest, with the exception of the Lucky Prize, which shall be awarded to one random participant with at least 1 contest point. In the event that a prizewinner is found to be unable to claim their prize, the prize will be awarded to the next eligible participant.

When the contest is in session, there is a special contest article with links to content that has been posted to Comment Speedway.
You get points by commenting on those pieces of content during the contest period.
Whoever has the most points wins.
I'll be keeping the current features up and updated until the contest starts, so if you're looking to practice your comment fu, don't forget to check out the Help These Articles, Help These Images, and Help These Videos features!
Maybe there will be 2000 at the time of the 2nd contest. LOL
I'm glad the contest will last for a while.
If you've got any old images, articles, or videos, especially if they have less than three comments, this is THE time to crosspost them to Comment Speedway, as that's what we're featuring in our contest! Don't forget, though, that you only get contest points for commenting on articles listed in the contest feature -- and only on comments left on other people's stuff! Hope this explains it better!
Last time was worse, because I actually tried to figure the score every time I removed a piece of content from the list! It really bogged things down. This time I'm (slightly) more organized about it, and will simply do the scoring first-thing when I get on Gather tomorrow and each day! (Okay, it's still a heck of a lot of work!)

Seems like many of the most recent photos and articles I wrote got few comments, well so far at least. Anything that helps boost comments is welcome by me. And I love commenting on other people's work.

To participate, all you have to do is join the group (if you haven't already), and comment on any (and every) thing listed in the contest article (which is here if you want a shortcut!) If you're one of the first ten comments on a piece of content, you get contest points - whoever has the most points wins! So far we've already cleared over a thousand pieces of content!
Also, don't forget to check back frequently, because new content is being added all the time! (Well, except when I'm sleeping. ::grins::)
