Tigger update 1 ~ 4-11-08

I got the phone call this morning about his blood work and he has fatty liver disease, the thing cats can get when they stop eating for whatever reason and then they can't eat.  I am force feeding and doing pills like I said last night but this afternoon I have to go in and be taught how to give him fluid under the skin (I did it more than 12 years ago for a different cat but am not feeling confident I remember everything I need to know about it) and get another pill for him.  After today I'll have to do the fluid under the skin daily at home until he is better and I am not looking forward to that.
He may end up having to have a stomach tube put in but for right now we are doing what I have told you about instead.
So far today I got one pill down, the 2nd one he threw up and we're about to try food again.

Please pray for Tigger and for me that I can do what he needs done.

Faith is the regimen you are following for Tigger only for a short time? Was reading a bit about this disease and it sounds like it can be reversible if caught in time?
I'm praying that this will quickly be resolved!
It is reversible but there isn't a set time for it to work to get him back to eating on his own and that is the goal.

Faith, I'm so sorry for you and Tigger, but I'm happy it is reversable and hopefully Tigger will be eating and feeling better soon. I'll pray for you and Tigger.

Faith, I am so sorry to read this. You and Tigger will be on my mind until I get the all clear.

I feel for you. I hope Tigger pulls through with flying colors. Getting pills down are difficult. When Merlin was sick last year, he refused to take his pills. I ended up crushing them with a little water and then using an eye dropper into the side of his mouth. Worked well.

Faith - I am sorry to hear that you and Tigger are faced with this. I do understand and have been through a similar situation with one of my cats and my heart goes out to you. I pray and know that God's hands are upon Tigger as He cares for all of His creatures.

The poor baby. A month or so ago when my cat Tia got gastroenteritis, she had to have fluid injected under her skin. The vet did it though, not me. With 2 shots and some pills she got better quite fast. I'm praying for Tigger.

Warm wishes to Tigger. I have a cat who lost a tongue and was very near death. She fully recovered (sans tongue) and except for a bit of hair pulling out she's fine. It's amazing how resilient they are. Good luck.

Ok here is a trick I have used with my cat who is having some problems himself. I take a rubber glove (like the kind the Dr.'s use) you can use a sandwitch bag. fill it with Milk, or water/wet food mix, or tuna juice and tie it up. Then I cut a very small hole in it so when I squeze it the Milk or what ever comes shooting out and down the cats throat. My cat has to drink it. Oh yeah I put the cat facing out between my legs to he can not run away.
