Good morning everyone!
We are excited to bring you a new Gather experience this morning. I wanted to share one tip, based on some early feedback we are getting from members since the launch.
- Go to your "My Gather" page
- Hit the "refresh" button on your browser
Why? Gather uses formatting templates (called CSS) for our entire site that allow different pages on the site to load faster for you. With this release, we changed updated our formatting templates significantly. We are noticing this morning that not all of our members are seeing the new templates. Hitting "refresh" on your browser tells your browser to go get the new templates.
If your My Gather page looked a little messy before, this should fix it. If you don't notice a change, don't worry...you were probably all set to begin with.
We look forward to your thoughts on the release. Thanks to those who have shared great feedback and suggestions so far.
All the best,
Tom

You've increased the connectivity level of the Gather ecosystem. It's great!
I still can't figure out how to feature an article on my page.
I refreshed and everything was fine... I then published an article. After publishing my article, my page was all messed up, and it wasn't just Gather either... I went to a couple of different websites and EVERYTHING was messed up.
I then closed out my browser completely, reopened and everything was fine and dandy again.
Now under your profile page you'll see "My Feeds". If you want to spotlight an article, click on the drop down bar and select articles (this will sort out some of the other stuff).
Your most recent articles will show up and by each article you'll see "spotlight". Just click on that :)
God Bless Tom
In that view, the main focus is on the person....I would like to see it on the article title...I read content more than people when I am browsing Gather.
Now for a really useful feature, if possible, would be a notice on the home page when people comment on our material. The email lag can be several hours to several days.
Is there a way to permanently filter what content you want appearing (and no I don't mean by friend sets!!!). I don't want to see pings, connections etc! I just want to see articles/photos/videos/comments!
..
U wishing you laughter

I am not liking this one bit...it's really hard to navigate, and you can't see your friends content past a few hours. What if I am not on Gather for a day...I will miss everything tha they published, unless I go searching for it, which takes a lot of time...time that I could have spent seeing content. I don't know, maybe it just takes A LOT of getting use to.

I don't care for this upgrade at all Tom. I hope you'll take a serious look at all the complaint articles posted this morning. This wasn't one of Gather's best moves, IMO.

oh and for not allowing me to spotlight any of the images or articles that i wanted to. that's a useful bit of garbage.
not to mention that i've now lost connection with someone whom gather seems to not allow me to connect with, only subscribe to, and now i can't do that either.
and can i compliment on you making so that every hateful stalker can now know exactly who i'm commenting to and can now go follow me everywhere i go leaving nasty messages unless i block out half of my friends and potential new friends from reading my content. not that they can seem to find anything, but the spamminators hawking travel websites sure seem to have no problem.
i do not believe that time will make the heart grow fonder with this jumbled mess of unreadability. in fact, it just might make me gather that much less.
Who has asked for this? (So that they may be publicly flogged.)
You might have advised people to empty their Temporary Internet Files cache. Its a bit mor cumbersome to get the same result but its imprtant people do that from time to time for performance and security reasons.
Ideally in Internet Options, the Temporary Internet Files (a cache of page impressions downloaded) should be set to delete all files before closing as malware files can be stored in it and run on the next startup.
I'm not as upset about it as I was - although there are a few things left to be desired . . .
Like when I go to someone's page, I would rather NOT see what groups or friends they've accepted as the default. I miss seeing the articles and pictures . . . it's a little more difficult to navigate. And I think it would be great if we could spotlight an older article, instead of having to republish it - since when you republish it does not include the old comments and discussion.
you can bitch all you want, the 'perk' of a free society... BUT no upgrade has EVER been rolled back on Gather so you better start figgering out how to 'get' it.
I don't think it's THAT bad, in fact there are parts I quite like, (soon as I find out I'll tell ya!)

The views is interesting, but other than that...
I don't seem to have any history to spotlight either except for comments. Article history for friends is awfully short as well?
I know this is a major change to the Gather experience. And I know major change brings a learning curve for everyone, frustration for many, and genuine fear for a few. I also know that some of the changes we make will be good ones in the end and some will not.
Initial reaction to change almost always leans toward negative. Sometimes, that reflects just the initial frustration/fear. Sometimes it is a sign of real trouble. In these first days post release, our focus is on helping people understand the new experience. Once we all settle into new patterns, we will dig very deep with you to see what's good and what's bad. And we will listen a lot.
I encourage you to join me at help.gather.com to continue this conversation today and in the days to come. Thanks, everyone, for expressing your thoughts this morning.
The new Gather is about people...ouch. I have a MySpace and a Facebook...that I don't use because as a "mature" woman....it is easier to just use IM or email to keep in touch with people.

Guess I'll head to the other article you're referencing.
