Ever wondered how often your content has been viewed? We know that our members who publish articles, images, and video are often curious to know how often site users view their content. Starting with this release, you can see how many visitors have seen your published items. We only count one visit per person each time they visit Gather, and the counts will be updated on a periodic basis.

You can view content counts on your My Articles, My Images, and My Video lists, accessible from your My Gather page. Only you have access to these lists. In addition, the number of views will also appear publicly on each content item with the rating and comment count.

My Gather Page Feeds
The new Friend Feed, Group Feed, and "Feed Me" interest feed will let you keep track of all the people and topics on Gather you care most about, right from your own My Gather page. Feeds can be filtered by various activities and friend sets, and can be customized to change the default content settings. learn more

Your Namespace—now renamed Profile—has been updated to include more options for you to share your creativity and profile information with others. We've introduced the "Spotlight" so that you can highlight the articles, images, and video you are most proud of on your profile. Will there be more information published on what constitutes a 'page view'?

For example, if a member or outside visitor views my article multiple times will that be treated as a single page view? Based upon your article above, it would appear that the answer is 'NO'.

...then does it matter when they view it? Some counters 'reset' after a specified period of time so a single member can trigger the counter to be incremented multiple times if they visit the same article a week, or even a day later.

Plus, will members in the same household each trigger an increment in content page views, or will subsequent views by family members be ignored?

So, the views are only by people who are "visitors" and not members of Gather? Thats why I can have 7 unique comments on a photo and only 2 "views?" That's weird, I'm more interested in how many Gather members view my stuff, I don't really care about outsiders.

I was hoping views would be counted by each view and not by person.

Back with an example:

This image has 29 comments by 28 different users:
Poppies.

BUT, it's only showing a total of 15 views. How is this possible?

Sherry, the view counts update on a periodic basis during the day, so it's possible they may lag behind the number of comments you are seeing at the moment.

Jenn, thanks for the response. Should they be current as of the time that the upgrade finished? If so, then there's a problem because when I logged out last night, I already had 26 or 27 of those comments.... How significant is the lag time?

On another site where I publish content, they've run the number of views all along. I've published there for over five years. I like the feature, but it's also, sheepishly said, humbling. I mean, only 76 views on my travel piece where I bare my heart and soul? ;-)

Next update might include listing the page numbers so that when I want to get to someone's first article and they have seven pages of content, I don't have to flip through each page to get to the first one. :-)

On another article I was told that each person is only counted 1 time. So if I view an article 4 times and make 4 posts it will show as 1 view and 4 posts on that article. I also tested this on my own articles ansd it does not count each time I view my own article as a view.

Now, I had an article that had 2 comments from UNIQUE users, but ZERO views. Did someone not tell me how to comment on an article without viewing it??????
