So I have this PDF product I am working on. It will be about 15 pages when it is done. Usually, for short PDFs, I use stock art or public domain art, since it doesn't make sense to break the budget buying original art for a short item only being sold in PDF format. Now you would think finding stock art or PD art for elves would be easy. Everybody and their brother draws elves, right? There are only a million fantasy art sites on the internet. You would think SOMEONE would be licensing elf stock art, wouldn't you?
The answer, it seems, is no. Nobody draws good old fashion elves, anymore. No, every elf portrait is dressed like a street walker or a romance novel book cover. Or we can't get just an elf. It has to be an elf/fairy/vampire/werecat hybrid. So after exausting the usual routes, I bite the bullet and post at deviantart.
Now there was a time when deviantart was my first "go-to" outlet to find artists. I've found a lot of great artists there over the years, and I like to think I've always treated my artists well. It's not like I'm looking for freebies and handouts. I pay on time. But over the last year Deviantart has quite frankly scared the crap out of me, because the vast majority of artists there don't know how to read. or don't care to. I haven't figured out which yet.
I'm serious. I think I am a pretty articulate person. I explain myself well. I'm clear and concise. But I'm in a bind. And I can't bother my regular illustrator with this because I've already got him working on two major print releases and I don't want to pull him off of that. So I post the following:
Please read this entire post befor replying. The last time I posted to DeviantArt looking for art I got a lot of replies from people who didn't bother to actually read what I was looking for.
Scope of Project:
I am currently working on a small PDF only project that will be sold at RPGNOW and affiliate sites. Normally for small projects I use stock clip art or public domain art, but it is very difficult to find useable art involving elves. I am looking for 3 or 4 pieces of art involving elves of the traditional fantasy/Tolkien variety.
I AM NOT looking for photos of people dressed up as elves, anime art, hybrid elf/dragon/vampires, fairies, or half naked elves in emo poses. Also, digitalizations of copyright materials (i.e. Legolas, etc) are out of the question. Ideally, I'd like to get all of the art from one artist for the sake of consistency, but if I have to use multiple artists that is fine so long as the styles mesh.
The actual wish list would be one dark elf/drow, one forest/wood elf/ranger, one high elf/cultured elf, and one "generic" elf of any sort. Color or B&W is fine. Must be at least 300 dpi so that it can be sized and modified during product layout.
Now I don't know how much more clear I can make it. I really don't. I continue to explain the payment:
Payment:
I am not looking to commission original art. I'm looking to license existing art that fits the project goals. If you think your work fits, let me know what your fee is to license the art for a PDF product. Keep in mind this is a short PDF product that will sell for less than $5 each. I am looking for non-exlusive, perpetual rights to use the art in the specified PDF only.
You will also get a PDF copy of the product for your portfolio. I can also include links to your personal deviantart page or website in the body of the product, and put some promotion behind you by linking to your site in press releases distributed to the RPG community (Mortality.net, ENworld.org, RPG.net, gamingreport.com, etc).
If you have existing art that fits the bill and you would like to see it put into a professional electronic RPG project and built your portfolio, this is your chance. Post a link in this thread to the illustrations in question, and PLEASE note your licensing fee in the thread.
Again, can I get more clear? If you have elf art that fits the above, and want to license it, let me know what your fees are and show me the art in question so I can make a decision.
The problem? Well, for starters, I didn't clearly state no PIXIES either, since someone offered me pixies. And there are the posters who think the NO ANIME art doesn't apply to them. And the people who want $50-$100 to use one piece of their art in a $5 PDF. And then, of course, the PMs from the people who "don't have any elves right now but I can product the required work in 4 to 6 weeks and what are you paying for original art?" EVEN THOUGH I SAID I WASN'T COMMISSIONING ORIGINAL ART.
And don't even get me started on the artists who can't seem to offer any samples of elves with actual clothes on. I'm surprised my company's anti-porn software didn't shut down my computer!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, anyone know where I can find some decent elves to use?

good luck..you might have to go to the source to find original..like North Pole or The Emerald Isle..maybe Disney?
I do so wish my artistic talent went beyond stick figures, too. But my stick figures often don't even look like proper stick figures. Heck, is you can add a cape, you're ahead of me!
