I'm thinking spring has passed us by here. There ARE rumors of the temperature being in the high 60's on Sunday but I've found it never pays to believe the weather forecast. Last night one of the online sites said we would have an inch of snow by morning. I'm just glad THAT one was wrong.
The grandkids and I got back from the coast on Sunday evening. There was an avalanche in the westbound lanes just west of Snoqualmie pass. Right at that time, we were in the eastbound lanes heading up to the pass. The 2 sides of the road are separated by a wide canyon there so we didn't even see it. Traffic had to wait for over an hour for the roadway to be cleared so I was VERY glad that didn't happen in our lanes!
Someone had asked if I got to go to the Tulip Festival in LaConner when we were over that way. The tulips weren't blooming at all, so we didn't drive up there. I suppose they started blooming first thing Monday morning as soon as they heard I was at home.
We had one good day of weather. I took the kids into the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. They had a lot of fun looking at all the exhibits, especially the interactive ones. There are trails out behind the museum that go across a couple islands with a wonderful view of the ship canal. We started out that way but the trail quickly turned into a bog. We weren't equipped to handle bog walking so turned back.
Then we went to Gas Works Park. It's a fun place with a lot of old equipment left standing, big lawns and a view of downtown Seattle and Lake Union. It gave the kids a chance to do some running. After that we went to the boat locks in Ballard. I always took my kids there when they were little but hadn't been back for several years. All 4 kids were fascinated to watch the boats be lowered or raised. Jacob especially liked it and had several good questions for the workers.
By then, it was late afternoon and the 3 youngest kids all fell asleep on the way back to the hotel. I drove along Highway 99 and told Jacob stories about the first times I had been to Seattle. (That was back in the Dark Ages.) I remember the very first time I got to visit there. I was a sophomore in high school and our basketball team had made it to the state tournament. As a member of the band, we got to go along. My first view of Seattle from across Lake Washington showed hills of houses! I had never seen so many houses in such close quarters. Since then I've visited many large cities both here and in Europe, but that first view of Seattle still sticks in my mind.
Now we are back to the routine of soccer games and dance classes. The boys each missed their first game of the season last Saturday. That was OK as it snowed here. So they are looking forward to their games this Saturday. My son in law will have a booth at the county GOP convention in support of his candidacy for state congressman. My daughter, the kids and I will go down and help him set it up. We will probably hang around a while, then I will take Jacob to his game.
I haven't had much time on Gather lately due to work and this trip. Now it's almost time to go BACK to work on Saturday. Probably we will have our six hours of spring while I'm at work and then will go back to more winter. Spokane has had the 2nd snowiest winter ever. Boy am I excited to have experienced it!

We got snow here last night and it was snowing quite heavily when I went to bed. We didn't get up until 8:30. All the snow was melted but more is predicted for the next couple of days.
Sounds like the kids had a great time. They are so lucky to have such a loving and fun grandma.
(for Minneapolis)
No dandelions yet. alas
I thought spring had sprung here (my daffodils are blooming, and trees are budding) but they're calling for snow here Friday!
But if the large rich people wanted to conserve energy in Texas they could just turn the thermostat to a more comfortable setting for the patients. I guess in Houston, everyone keeps their houses freezing. I try to keep it cheap.
My crocuses are up and the daffodils are trying. I'm sick at the thought of more snow, because last year's late spring snow killed off the daffs and any chance of the flowering spring trees.
*sigh*
if you believe that then you have been breathing that high mountain air too long!
(Will somebody SHOW ME global warming, LOL?)
I 90 runs right behind my house, Deb, so be sure and wave if you drive by!
I'd like a little global warming too, Alison. I know it's happening in some places but not here!
I keep my house pretty cool all winter, Norma, to avoid a big heating bill. I usually wear a sweatshirt or a jacket around all winter in the house.
Caty went to school Monday morning and that was the first thing she told her teacher. When we got back from the coast Sunday afternoon, my daughter and her husband had bought a big cake for them saying "Congratulations" with their new last name on it.
That's so sweet about the kids and the cake. And a good idea. It is a momentous occasion.
You've got a full week ahead of you and only a couple of days left. I could not keep up with you, I don't think.
Well, think I'm going to call it a night. See you tomorrow.
i'll try to send you some more sunshine and warmth from florida...
i'm sure i can spare some for you, my friend... take care... love ya...

Where I am, spring is beginning to move into summer...
Good to know you are taking the young ones to interesting places.
Jennifer, everyone who keeps saying they have 90 degree temps make me very jealous. This August when it's 90 here, then it won't be as exciting!
Necee, thanks for sending some warmth. I hope it gets here quickly.
William, that initial view heading into Seattle has NOT changed a whole lot, though the roads are wider. Back then, we rode in on horseback.
Minnie!! It's great to see you. Thanks for dropping by.
Amy, the weather forecast here does NOT mention snow this weekend. That must be a first for us for a long time.
Curt, are you going to be making wine?
I can see five more of your articles listed just like yesterday. Wow. how about that.
I have gone out 2 times in 2 weeks and both time wore sandles.
It has been raining a lot though but I have been inside healing and writing.
Oh and doing my taxes.
Wish I could block that experience out completely this year.
Hope this finds you well and happy Wilma!
I'm out of snow to throw at you, Jerri, so you are safe. I could cross the line into Idaho and find some though.
It snowed here lightly most of the day. Fortunately, it all melted as it hit the ground.
I couldn't help it, I saw where Liam said we are all just puppets and burst out laughing. I would love to know where he heard that. Or did he come up with it on his own. You must investigate that one.
See you later.
I was telling to my friends that here in LA , it was 90 degree F...It was burning today and I am mad in this type of weather. Is this spring...well, I am jumping feeling so so much hot.
Then it is suppose to go to 70's later in the week.
We did get a good Spring thunderstorm the other day though! Even lost power for a few hours thanks to the storm.
Otherwise, we'll be flipping the heat off and on through the day and one of us is either too hot or too cold. Every single one of us in this family has our own personal thermostat.
I'm really hating these changes on Gather. Last night it took me forever just to figure out how to post an article.
It's your home, when ever you see me you can come anytime. I loved u , love u and loving you:)
I am cheap. But tired too.
This has been a bit of a crazy week so far and I have not had much chance to put in any hours at work. Hoping that by tomorrow I can get caught up a little bit so that I don't have to work this weekend. Unfortunately, I have to borrow hours from Gather to do that so that means I fall behind on my commenting and writing. Maybe things can back on schedule by next week and I can write and post again.
The grass is (almost) riz,
I wonder where the birdies is?
27 degrees in Mass this morn...but it warmed up by afternoon.
Thanks for commenting on my article! I'll let you know when that mass lawn work is gonna happen!
Yes, Bill, the Gather upgrade is responsible for everything wrong in the world.
Bob, you can use this article as needed. With the upgrade, we need to find our way around the maze however possible.
I'm glad to hear SOME people have spring. Michelle is organizing people and they all are going to come do my yard work!! I won't hold my breath, though. Probably Gather will improve before the yard work happens!!
Have a SAFE TRIP God is with you
so are your friends
God Bless
Donald said thank you for the Birthday Card. And he said tell you that he loves the present you sent him.
