Accompanied by both our kitties I took a walk in our garden today.
First, let me introduce you to Mini-Kitty Fluffball.
She acted particularly frisky today, chasing the lizards in the garden.

She is a dainty cat - light and fast on her feet eh, paws.
What's this - oh my goodness, my new hibiscus that I planted last year has decided to bloom.
Isn't it stunning?
I love the whirligig hot pink and white center - such a neat contrast to the tropical yellow.
Zinnias, blue salvia and lemon grass, which I love for tea and for cooking. I placed these in an old tub until I am ready to plant them in the herb garden. I thought they were a lovely color combination.

Jimbo, our tiger kitty has decided to lay in wait for me - in the middle of the garden path. He doesn't look inclined to move - so I'll have to step around him - after I paid tribute with a little petting of course.

Next stop is the grass Lily or Iris, I'm not sure which it is.
Today, it opened it's first bloom of the year.
It looks like grass all year and then in April and May out come these really cool looking blooms.

Isn't this pretty?
Here is a small picture of the grass. The light spot on the left is the flower, it will get several blooms at once for about two months. I like that it requires no maintenance plus it is evergreen, a great addition to any garden.
TAKE A CLOSE LOOK
This is really special, these are wild impatiens, they self-seeded. They were in a pot with a lily that I keep in the back forty, until it is ready to bloom again. I discovered them when I retrieved the pot. Since it is time for the lily to emerge, I placed the pot in the sun.
What is different? The color and the markings of these impatiens and that they have large leaves.

In this case I am not quite certain if the camera really captured what I see.
The color is a truly amazing, very soft pink and there is a mini touch of intense purple in the center where the red heart looking marking is.
Do you see it?

I love violas and these have a wonderful scent. In the front there are vanilla colored mille bells.

Below: I noticed the Caladium leaf looked so pretty (it was supposed to be all white-oh well) and together with the white impatient and the wild asparagus fern it all made for such a nice composition - I wanted to share it with you.

I'd like to conclude today's garden walk with a look at a garden plaque I received from my friend Merge.
The plaque reads: Friends are flowers that never fade.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my garden today - it was my pleasure to have you along.

And your flowers are so precious! The violas are also one of my personal favorites! Did you ever read my article "Faces in the Flowers"? (first published in "GreenPrints" magazine...) I KNOW that you will want to read it, so, here's the link:
Faces in the Flowers
Cats and gardens just go together, don't they?
Thank you, it thrills me that you like the kitties. ..and yes, Bobbi, kitties and gardens were made for each other.
Thank you for finding me Jane and Holly, I'm still wandering about smarting from the down - I mean upgrade.
Zinnias are such happy flowers and they just need to be in a veggie or herb garden. Thanks Jimmie.
Jean, I am off to read the faces in the flowers article - I already know I will love it.
Thank you all for your nice comments!
My hibiscus are just now starting to come back up, so it will be a while before we get blooms.
Bless you...
April, those Hibiscus really are so pretty and reliable bloomers.
Nana, thank you, we especially enjoy the garden this time of year before the summer heat beats down on everything.
Elizabeth, I think there would be something missing with no kitties in sight.
necee - it is a blessing to have a nice garden to retreat too.
Fern, thank you that is always the nicest compliment when you manage to get across the feeling of the moment:)
Marylin, I do miss those spring bulbs - but Florida has it's own compensations. Still, every once in a while I dream of Forsythia and, tulips and such.
Rachel, Amy and Wilma thank you for your nice comments.
C.F. - yes, it seems kitties and gardens were made for each other-just ask my two kitties:).
Very nice article. If you care to see my cat, you can click on my name and look at my images. They really do look a lot alike.
