Trivium is a band from Orlando, Florida. Their first album, Ember To Inferno, was released on Lifeforce Records in 2003, while their second album Ascendancy was released via Roadrunner Records on March 22nd, 2005. They recently released their third album, "The Crusade", on which the band's sound changed slightly, replacing screaming with clean singing and settling on a heavily Metallica-influenced style. Trivium even play their older songs in this style now and even contributed to a Metallica cover album 'Master Of Puppets- ReMastered' playing the title track. Last year, the band hit the UK with Still Remains and 3 Inches of Blood for the 13-date Roadrunner Roadrage tour. The shows led them to far greater popularity in the UK, a feat proven by their critically-acclaimed opening slot at 2005's Download Festival.
Towards the end of late summer 2005, the band took part in Ozzfest 2005 playing on the second stage alongside bands such as As I Lay Dying, Arch Enemy and Rob Zombie. When the 'egg-gate' issue surrounding Sharon Osbourne and Iron Maiden sparked, the band stayed true to their idols and despite Osbourne's ensuing sabotage of their sets, were quoted as saying "I wouldn't throw anything at Maiden, not even money".
While lyrically, the first album addressed romantic disillusionment and child abuse, this time the songs confront spousal abuse, suicide, depression, tyranny, and freedom of speech. However, even at his most poignant, Heafy prefers expressing gut emotion to preaching. "I've found that when you have a negative aspect in your life, you can find so much negativity in other people's lives around you, and in the world. For me, it's good to write about the negativity to get some of it out of my system."
Trivium formed in 2000 after the band's original singer saw Heafy perform the Offspring's "Self Esteem" with a drummer at his middle school talent show. The band members chose the name Trivium, which is Latin for the intersection between the three schools of learning: grammar, rhetoric, and logic, because they liked the way it implied an open-mindedness to different styles, and summed up their musical aesthetic. After a couple of gigs at parties, the original singer quit the band and Heafy took the wheel. For the next two years, the band honed its sound, and in 2002 Heafy won the Best Metal Guitarist Award at the Orlando Metal Awards. Trivium headed into the studio in the beginning of 2003 to record their first high-quality demo disc. From this, German label Lifeforce signed Trivium and sent the band into the studio to record Ember To Inferno.
