Sum 41 is a punk rock band from Ajax, Ontario, Canada. The band was formed from members of several local high school bands, 41 days into the summer of 1996.
The band consists of:
Deryck Whibley a.k.a. Bizzy D (lead vocals, guitar)
Jason McCaslin a.k.a. Cone (bass, backing vocals)
Steve Jocz a.k.a. Steve-O 32 (drums, backing vocals).
Tom Thacker a.k.a. Brown Tom (Touring Member) (guitar, backing vocals, keyboard).
Sum 41 reached mainstream success with the release of All Killer No Filler, which sold over 2 million copies. The album was made popular due to the hit singles "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep", the former reaching number 1 on the US Modern Rock charts.
Since signing a record deal with Island Records in 1999, Sum 41 has released four studio albums, two live CDs, two live DVDs, over ten singles and sold millions of copies worldwide. As of 2006 the band performed more than 600 times and have become famous for their world tours that are usually more than a year-long.
An extensive tour followed, and Sum 41 enjoyed their buffo success the way all near-teenage boys would, with plenty of towel-snapping, groupie-loving, and self-depreciating, low-ball humor. In 2002, they returned to wax with Does This Look Infected? While the album was a bit harder-edged, it found Sum 41 just as jazzed as ever to mix punk-pop business with sophomoric pleasure: the video for "Hell Song" featured the fellows acting out a sort of rock star debauchery cage match with the aid of a few celebrity action figures. Metallica, Jesus Christ, and the Osbournes all made appearances in the hilarious clip.
