How are record gas prices affecting your plans?

The price of gas continues to climb, averaging $3.33 nationally. Some analysts expect it to reach as high as $4 by summer. The cost of diesel is causing rising costs in food because diesel is used to transport the majority of the world's food. The job and housing markets are tight. The job market fell by  80,000 jobs last month.

So, how is this affecting your plans? Are you staying closer to home this summer? Taking more public transportation? Growing gardens? Visiting more farmers markets?

I have to say that the gas prices haven't really changed anything for me. We already take public transportation, ride our bikes, or walk. We try to visit our local outdoor market for produce and I am already a stay at home !

If it will be $4 in the summer, I think it will be hard for everyone.

Well there will be no trip back home for me, i'll also be staying close to home as much as possible. I'm going to break out the vollyball net. :-)

We don't go out as much. I also wait a lot longer to fill up than I normally would.

I don't go places near as much as I used to. We probably won't be going to see family in W. Virginia this year either.

No. Only one. I planned to leave a car length for every 10mph but found that if I draft the car in front of me instead, I use less gas. ;)

My lease on my 2004 Saturn Vue just ended. I returned the car and am not getting another one. I'll walk, bike, ride the bus or get rides from my boyfriend. No more cars for me if I can help it.

I really want to walk and take mass transit more, but walking is extremely dangerous in my county. A lot of parts of the road have no sidewalks and the walk/don't walk signs often don't work. It's very pdestrian-unfriendly. And I already blogged about the buses. I still walk a lot, though, since we only have one car and my husband takes it to work the three days I work from home. I think we are going to be staying a lot closer to home during the summer.

I am just busting my hump to try to cover the added expense for the stuff we want to do this year actually. talking about fuel efficient vehicles too.
