Lawn Repair and seeding...A Question

My lawn is in sad shape. It's also really shady. I bought a lawn repair kit yesterday. When can I use this? Should I wait until there is no possibility of frost or can I do this now?

Mark I just listened to Deb Brown on Midmorning and got the message to hold off and wait, but that's my perspective from what she said.

We won't work on our lawn (two big dogs + using the backyard all winter = you get the picture) for another few weeks.
