HERE WE GO AGAIN?
So while we in America are mired in the multiple blows to the economy we are told that there is notable progress in Iraq. General Patreus is set to lay out a comprehensive overview of the war in Iraq expected to indicate continuing progress on all levels of measure. In this connection the congress will be asked to make yet another multi billion contribution to the war effort adding to the estimate of a 4 trillion bill, already incurred.
It would be truly good news if there really is substantial progress in the war front. For one thing the New York Times in todays Sunday edition indicates that there is a notalbe increase of post traumatic stress syndrome observed in combat military forced to serve multiple reups in Iraq. Additionally most Americans have had it with the Bush , Cheney, Rumsfield, neocon war and want to bring the troops home as soon as it is prudent to do so.
However in the midst of war wearniness there are continuing ominous signs that we may be in for a summer pre election surprise of unthinkable consequences. Please note the following headlines from Debka - a news service emanting from Israel.

Why is there no speculation about such noteworthy news events over here? How might we dare pull this off?
Here comes the conspiracy part.
- Increased war produces instant jobs.
- The Republicans and many fearful Democrats rally around the War presidential candidate McCain.
- Bush is already a disaster as far as the polls are concerned. What does he have to lose re public opinion?
I truly hope this scenario is the by product of bluff and hysteria. But given the fact that the Bush administration has consistently lied about such matters, is convinced that God is exclusively on ourside, the economy needs an influx of jobs, and those Republicans who are unscupulous will stop at nothing to maintain control of the government this course of events appears all together realistic.
Perhaps we should expand the war but shouldn't we first have a national conversation?

So all we can do is express our displeasure after the fact...with our votes.
If McCain is elected, the 70+ percent of the people in the country who say the war is a mistake and we should get out have nobody to blame but themselves.
To McCain's credit, he has been very forthright on this, in spite of the obvious unpopularity of the war. So, your suspicion that the American people have a surprise waiting for them this summer is not unfounded. If the neocons want to keep power, they have to do something to change the political winds.

I don't know how reliable winterpatriot is....I just happened on the site while looking for something else.
And, gibbs, another motivation of the Bush administration is that BW needs to salvage his legacy. Most every thing his has done up to this point has been a disaster. The only way he knows how to behave is to be tough - and if tough doesn't work, what do you do? You become tougher!
