Do You Re-Read Your Old Books?

I am out of books to read at the house... I really can't go a day without reading... Mainly becasue I HATE watching TV... The only things I like on tv are WWE and Will & Grace... Don't ask me why but I just don't like anything else... So I was thinking, it's been a while since I've been in Anita Blake's world (A series by Laurell K Hamilton) and Blood Noir is supposed to come out soon but I've read so many things since then that I think I forgot part of the story... Would you re-read the series so you know where you left off or trust your brain to click into gear once you pick up the next book?

I guess it would depend on the series for me. I usually don't re-read the previous book but usually have my memory jogged when the next book reprises some of the plot and characters.

I re-read my book all the time. I suppose it's a habit that I can't seem to get rid of. I'm an English Literature student, and I had actually been taught to read a novel at least twice. The first is just to get a general sense of direction, and the second is to critique.

I can't tell you how many times I have reread the Robert Jordan series! That being said, I used to have an hour commute each day on the metro - I don't think that I would have the time anymore.

I never re-read books, but yet I keep the books for someday that I *may* get the urge to re-read them. I always tell myself that one day I'll go back and read a series from start to finish, and yet... it never happens. I keep bringing in new books and have so much to read that I can't be bothered to go back and read something that I've already read.

It is extremely rare that I reread a book. Usually once I read it it is in my mind...though at times I do need a refresher on some of them.

I must reread mine as there are times I am reading when I should probably be sleeping... If it is a really good book, I won't move until I have finished and that probably has something to do with me forgetting that I read parts of it... LOL

I reread a number of my books. When The Chronicles of Narnia came out I pulled my copy out and read it again. Will have to do the same with the next book in the story before the second movie is released.

Reread yes it is always fun because you can always catch something that you may have missed the first time around.

yes, I rerad old books. I have several very very old books that I read from time to time. It is neat to read what people thought back than and see how far we have came.

Oh, yeah, I will reread the series up to that point to be ready for the next book. I don't read the Anita Blake series, but I adore the Meredith Gentry series.

It's harder with Terry Pratchett, there are little mini-series and you have to know which one he's continuing so you can read the right books.

Some books are a lot more fun to reread. I reread all the Harry Potter books a couple of times. I guess they are hard to get tired of.

My poetry anthologies? Yes. Condensed and concentrated words are good again and again. Novels rarely. Exceptions: Ed McBain's 87th Precinct police procedural novels and Ian Fleming's James Bond series.

I've reread many books and always find something there that I didn't see before. I've read MOBY DICK at least six times.

I reread many books, especially the classics - every few years I pick up Wuthering Heights or Pride and Prejudice. Now that I have younger nieces and nephews, I love sharing books with them that I read as a child - it gives me a great excuse to read them again.

I don't keep all of my books. I only keep fiction that I completely loose myself in, you know, those books that you sit up until 2a.m. reading. I just finished a Master's degree and I will keep all of those books.

I reread the novels I love. Poetry books are read over and over. Non fiction books are looked at from time to time. If I did not love the book or will never look at it again I dont keep it.

I used to re-read a lot more, but my list of what I want to read just for the first time is so long, I would never get to any of it if I stopped to re-read things. I do plan to re-read one of my all-time favorite series (Mistress of the Empire by Raymond Feist) as I unpack boxes and unearth it. When a new book in a series comes out, I might consider brushing up by re-reading the last one in the series, but that's rare. (I admit to re-reading the 6th Harry Potter while waiting for my husband to read book 7. Which allowed me to brush up his memory at the same I as I was brushing up mine!)

I re-read books a lot, but only the ones I really like a lot. When I was in junior high I think I read Swiss Family Robinson a half dozen times. I've read Shogun at least that many times and get something new out of it each time. I've read Steven R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant series several times. Depending on your mood and your current circumstances, your age and experiences, you pick new things to notice each time you read a book. After just a year, you've changed enough that something that you didn't give thought to the last time might really intrigue you the next time. You might pay closer attention to the characters one time around, then notice the general story trends or details or literary devices another time. It's wonderful. You never step into the same river twice, as my great-grandmother used to say.

I haven't read this particular series, but I've had a similar dilemma with other series. In most cases, I've just trusted my brain, i.e., I trusted that my memory would click when I read the latest in the series.

But in the case of a sequel to a book that I read a couple of years ago, I'm probably going to skim through the original book before I read the sequel because the original was so complex.

I have a very poor memory for plot, so I can read the same book over and over again ;-). Still, I have waayyy too many books that I'll never look at again. What do you all doe with those?
Yes, actually I do. I have over a thousand non-fiction books that I keep 'cause I'm that boring. Then I have about 300 fiction books that I like to revisit once in awhile.

I reread books just because it has been ten years since I read the book the last time. I also reread the beginning of a series when the next book in the series comes out. Sometimes I reread a whole series just because it has been so long since I read it last.

I have re-read many of the books I own, and haven't touched others due to lack of time. But it's really comforting to pick up one of "my friends" that I haven't visited in a while and get reaquanited!

Yes, but only favorite series and books. I'm also learning to only own favorite authors. Owning every book i read, is too space consuming.

I've reread the Harry Potter books a few times. I've also reread classics like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and Villette. I plan to go back and reread the Anne of Green Gables series since I haven't read it since junior high.

I am tiny like a leprechaun, barely 5 feet tall.
