I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

I never promised you a rose garden
but you got one from the start.
Planted each individually and tended
them from the bottom of my heart.

They stood side by side with other
plants which bloomed with care
and wafted their scented bouquet
lovingly as they rose in the air.

I never promised you a rose garden
but one grew so openly and large
tending to special moments in time
with love always and forever in charge.

I stand before them in morning light
wanting to prune them for the best
but spring running a little late now
awaiting winter's timely rest.

I never promised you a rose garden
but now I await its colorful return
reminding me of your many blossoms
and how love was our major concern.

Liz, I spent the day in the yard. All the plants need tending to but I feel I must get them back up to our standards.

Jim, I am sure they will bloom again but just in case I am planting a few new ones.
