The Lorie (Photo Essay)

These pictures were taken in the big Lorikeet room at Lowry Park Zoo.  They have several bird houses throughout the zoo.  You can purchase nectar to feed them and they will hop on your hand.  (Lories eat nectar and fruit, not nuts.)  There were all green Lories and the rainbow colored ones.  I only got good pictures of the rainbow ones.  These may or may not be the same bird.  They all look pretty much alike.  (If you want to see them larger, click on the photo on the right and go through them all.

Victoria, they are sold as pets, but they are not one of the easier bird species to keep. They eat nectar, so they cannot be fed the normal bird diet and are messier than some (because of the diet).
