Yoo hooo! Everybody out there who hates Al Gore!! Please post here and add to my point total.
Gore and many others are opening up the next battle front in the Climate Change Politics War. The Alliance for Climate Protection is getting busy with the National Wildlife Federation to save the world from global warming, by instituting a $300 million Ad campaign to educate and motivate the American electorate in an election year. The Alliance has hired the Martin Agency to create a campaign to draw attention to the issue. You may start seeing a few of these TV spots as soon as TODAY. Time slots have already been purchased on shows such as "House", "American Idol", and "Law & Order". Some of the spots in the "We" campaign will focus on past victories of the American people, for example, winning World War II, and ending the age of segregation in the USA- in order to communicate the notion that the only way to solve the climate challenge is through action.
One challenge of the Ad campaign is to get citizens to accept the notion that climate change is as important as their current concerns about the state of the economy. Yes, that is a big challenge right now. The Ad agencies are aware that low income Americans are less motivated than middle class or wealthy Americans on the topic of global warming- too worried about buying food and gas to worry about the grandkids' future. The Ad campaign also apparently sets a strategic goal of sucking some of the political and religious partisanship from the topic of climate change. One Ad reportedly features Al Gore, Pat Robertson, and Newt Gingrich together. Wow, that is an unusual photo opp.
If you would like to use this post as an opportunity for Gore bashing, feel free. It is notable that around one million of that $300 million Ad budget is a contribution from Gore himself. Gore reportedly has also finally put up solar panels on his Tennessee home, belatedly, in response to criticism that he has failed to walk the walk that he loves to talk. Ultimately, climate change is about the 6 billion human residents of planet earth, not just one middle aged guy from Tennessee with a Nobel Prize and an Oscar, but if you want to argue otherwise, feel free.

They're probably part of the 1 in 5 Americans that believe the sun orbits around the earth. (maybe they just don't know what the word 'orbit' means)
Just kidding!!
The reason, Victor, that Gore and others feel compelled to do this is the irrational jealousy and/or hatred expressed by people who disagree with the vast majority of the scientific and world community for political and personal reasons. This strong backlash has left others unsure of what to believe.
The simple, if inconvenient, truth for the vocal dissenters is that I can make all of the same arguments as the Global Warming campaign using data and logic that never once refer to global warming, but that stick to issues of national security, dependence on foreign oil and protection of the environment for our health and future. I do this at length on my blogs and in various on-line discussion groups (e.g at BlogCatalog). When I do this, the same people who bash global warming ferociously often agree with me 100%, and say so in no uncertain terms.
Nearly nothing but novels: fiction and crime fiction book reviews
Chemistry for a sustainable world
as you say, almost every scientists on the planet thinks climate change to be a serious mess, and nearly all of them accept the human burning of fossil fuels as the root cause too. Yet around 20% of the USA electorate clings to total lunacy.
Do you leave any notion in your rhetoric that conservatives also care about the environment? Is there any room in the rhetoric for individual reasonability? I care about the environment BUT I do not agree with some of the tactics of the global war movement.
- Carbon trading is a complete scam
- Passing mandated efficiency rules make cars more expensive but don't help environment - people drive more
- either guilt or make people change light bulbs ignoring the environmental impact on the construction and then destruction of those.
- Ethanol and Bio fuels, raise cost of food...you might have noticed the economy is not too great so high food prices ares probably not very helpful…. But I understand we all must suffer for our sins.
What bothers me is others telling me or trying to regulate me into saving the environment. Give me a tax credit...a real one so I can buy that solar panel. Don't charge me for using more carbons because my heater uses gas.
You guys just make it too easy on yourself and accept the changing science as absolute fact and then try to guilt everyone into seeing it your way. We have been in a warming trend since end of the ice age. You have conflicting data in regards to heating of the ocean which is throwing kinks into your models. You have no idea if it rains in 10 days but say you can predict the temperature next decade. I am sorry but I am not ready to base an entire economic policy on incomplete data.
Pardon me while I go recycle my soda can.
