This is certainly not your average cache find. And I was really shocked while reading the following cache log:
Log Date: 4/1/2008
OK, this was supposed to be a quick grab on the way home from the Doctor. I pulled within 5-10 yards of the location. I exited the Cachcruzer and headed off to find the booty. I quickly got into the general area(within 10 feet radius). I started looking under some bushes my gps leveled out in front of a particular bush. Wow, that was quick! I glanced down near the base of the bush where all the limbs extend and caught a glimpse of what at first I thought was the cache. Nope, not quite a cache. I guess someone who had bad intentions or who had done something bad had ventured by here. I realized the cache wasn't a cache, but a pistol. Yeah I took pictures. I took a step back glanced around then took a closer look. Yep, its a gun. It wasn't loaded and didn't have a clip in it. I made a quick call to 911 and then waited for 45min-1hr for the officers to arrive. After they retrieving the pistol I explained how I had came across the weapon. They were very intrigued by Geocaching. So much so they helped in the search for the cache. I quickly found it about 10 feet southeast of the Pistol bush. So there you go. My quick park and grab ended up with the police coming out and helping in the hunt. We also CITOed a couple grocery bags of trash. I couldn't talk them into letting me turn the pistol into a Travel Bug! LOL!

Team Snipe Hunters
This is an easy, small urban cache hidden in a holly bush behind a Quick Trip. It's one I placed a few years ago and I've never had any trouble with it. So I am still sitting here in shock with what Team Snipe Hunters found this evening. I'm glad Cobb County's finest had fun looking for my cache though. That's kind of cool actually.
I would have normally thought this was an April Fools gag, but I've already spoken to the cacher and he insists this is no joke.

I don't because I can't drive to the corner store without getting lost.
Andrea, lol! You can't get lost with a GPS. It won't let you ;)
God bless...
George why would you want a unregistered weapon that could have been used in a crime you could later be conviced of if they found the gun on you later.
Just curious.
Have a blessed day,
cheers,gayle
When I lived in the city I once found a bag of heroine. We took it to the police dept but man can you imagine finding a gun. I think I would be quite scared.
At least you found the gun, instead of a kid.
Great article
We used our hand held gps the other day when we were out exploring history. It would have been good if we had had topographical on ours. Wondering if you have it and any advice. Thanks.
Please tell me you don't go traipsing out in the countryside alone.
I think as more people, just like the police, learn about this, it's going to be an even hotter hobby. I'm saving for a GIS system so I can join in.
BTW, I didn't make it to Atlanta last weekend.
I have a Magellian GPS, and while it has helped me find some places, I keep finding that it is out of date almost anyplace where there has been a road built or altered in the last 10 to 12 years. And I have no idea how to update the info in my GPS. So, at the time I use it very little, since we have lots of new roads and communities here that it doesn't recognize.
Also, it only holds a charge for, at the most, two-and-a-half hours. They advertised it as "perfect for hikers" but the charge isn't long enough!
nice of the police to help pick up garbage and find the cache you were looking for....
so much for quick..eh...
Interesting.
yes, minus the guns
I got a new gps, did I tell you?
