For the group, 100 Word Stories using the prompt: "Write a short scene in which one character reduces another to uncontrollable sobs without touching him or speaking." Rescued crying children, who could climb up the ladder to the hayloft, but not down. Was our bachelor uncle, the silent type. When he spoke it was funny. "We were fishing with dynamite. When it exploded we flew so high up over the river bank we could see Ylitalo's planting potatoes in the field." Hoped to go out, "Like turning off the light switch". Got his wish, while reading, his glasses dangling from his big hands. When I saw his worn boots with gloves crossed on top where he left them, I burst into tears. Trilliums bloom on his birthday.
