The Peaceful Streets of an Island Village - Janitzio - part 3 - a photo essay

In the middle of Lake Patzcuaro are several islands. The largest of these islands is Janitzio, "The place of rain". On top of the island is a huge 120-foot tall statue of José María Morelos. On the slopes of the island, the village of Janitizio. In this third photo essay my daughter, Jennifer, and I wandered through the streets of the village.

After climbing to the top of the Morelos statue we started a liesurely stroll down from the summit.

The first thing we noticed was that, since this is an island, there are no cars on the streets. That's was a nice treat. The streets are winding and sometimes steep. Few places give a view ahead of more than a few dozen yards.

Around each corner is another surprise. An interesting little craft shop with a woman embroidering. A little restaurant. Maybe a group of people sitting on the steps chatting. You just don't know what you'll find.

There's not a lot more I can say. So, I'll just show you what we saw as we walked back down the hill from the statue to the pier. Enjoy!

gorgeous, i love the one of the old woman sewing. the colors are fantastic! i have to say, though, those stairs looked so difficult to me (as a disabled person) - did you see anyone with disabilities?
